Port congestion and capacity issues have emerged as the most significant challenges facing global ports today. This was highlighted in a recent LinkedIn poll conducted by Logistics Middle East , where an overwhelming 76% of respondents identified these issues as their primary concern. The implications of congestion extend far beyond delays in shipping schedules; they reverberate through the entire supply chain, causing increased costs, operational inefficiencies, and disruptions in global trade.

Etihad Rail , the UAE National Rail Network developer and operator, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with COSCO SHIPPING Ports Limited (CSP) Abu Dhabi Container Freight Station. CSP aims to strengthen logistics and connectivity within the UAE, enhance supply chain efficiency, and extend services across the UAE and the wider GCC region.

As the global community nears the completion of the first half of 2024, the full-scale impact of the Red Sea disruption on global trade and supply chains is only beginning to unfold. The attacks on commercial vessels in the Bab al-Mandab Strait have not only affected a whole gamut of sectors such as transport, energy, construction and finance, but have also radically altered – even if temporarily – how global supply chains work, thereby dictating by when industries can deliver on their current projects and how much extra they need to spend.?
