Cybersecurity startup Wiz has earned a spot on 7 out of 10 Top Startups city lists — a data-backed ranking of the emerging companies growing fast and gaining attention in major metropolitan areas across the country. The localized lists feature companies across key sectors, whether it’s biotech dominating Boston’s list (Cellino, Manifold Bio, Volta Labs), AI populating San Francisco’s list (Perplexity, Glean, Inworld AI), or creator and consumer-focused startups topping Los Angeles’ list (Summer Fridays, Bloom Nutrition, Spotter). ?? OpenAI is staffing up in cities across the globe. The artificial intelligence startup has confirmed that it is setting up shop in New York City and also opening U.S. offices in Seattle. It is growing its global presence, too, with planned outposts in Paris, Brussels and Singapore. The news comes fresh off the company’s $6.6 billion funding round and amid a reported shift to a public benefit structure that will likely see more power be concentrated under CEO Sam Altman.?? This week’s topic: Job hopping’s 401(k) risks
As Americans job hop for better pay and professional prospects, they might be shortchanging their 401(k) accounts. Forgetting to sign up for their new employer’s retirement savings account or getting auto-enrolled at a lower savings rate can end up costing them as much as $300,000 over a four-decade career, according to research from Vanguard Group. For every 10% raise, the median job switcher loses nearly a percentage point in their savings rate. While more portable than pensions, 401(k)s still require a degree of stability, or maintenance, to achieve maximum savings gains. ?? Cate Chapman

It feels like retirement plans need a redesign to match today’s more fluid career paths. Curious to hear others’ thoughts what would you want in a 401(k) that’s better suited to the modern workforce?
