At The Top Of Their Stairways
We must all enjoy this warming trend while it lasts, and you can bet yours truly has been doing just that by finding every opportunity to be outdoors, including my walking to downtown appointments rather than driving. Today was also a good day to get some sweeping done on my front sidewalk, along with picking up all the accumulated blown-in trash at the front and rear of my office. What I find terribly annoying, is seeing that retired guy on his bike digging thru all the downtown dumpsters on a daily basis, and about all he's looking for in those closed garbage bags, are bottles with redemptions, but of course once those bags are opened, their contents most often become airborne from the wind tunnels we have in back alleyways. I'm sure you'd recognize him because he's got some sort of sign saying where those redemption funds are going. I find it puzzling he simply doesn't go out and get a part time job to help those he's financially assisting. I'm now beginning to wonder if dumpster-diving is addictive.
With two closings coming up the end of next week, I worked at getting one file readied for closing, but still waiting for the title work on the other, so it appears we're going to be pulled into another one of those last day rush jobs. I wish we had more qualified title attorneys in our area, just so we can get faster turnarounds. Don't think Realtors aren't being blamed for the slow process because the first in line, is usually the one blamed. Like the old saying goes, 'Don't kill the messenger.”
When reviewing the sales of my competitors, I dare say there's a handful of them who'll be having bulged bank accounts come the end of the year, so let's hope Uncle Sam gets everything he's owed. Since the first two quarters of this year were unusually slow for my office, I've been working very hard to play catch up which will at least show that Holtz Realty is alive and well. Without a doubt, this year has been one where no good deed has gone unpunished, and so much so, I've had a little talk or two with myself, just as a personal reminder that it's all on them and not me.
Two more pieces of furniture were loaded and driven off by a gentleman who's been the helping hand of the receiving family. Each time they drive off with more 'stuff', I have another warm feeling that I've freely and willingly done something good for others. I'm sure one of the pieces that went out today, will be cherished for many years to come.
There were two free hours available this afternoon which I put to use with my working at cleaning up my storage room, along with getting summer stuff put away and winter things pulled out, which included my snow shovels, the grit I use on the sidewalks and my heavy snow-sweeping broom. From what I read today, it sounds like we're going to have another mild winter. Wouldn't it be great if we had one similar to last?

When thinking about a number of maniacal power and money grubbing individuals I know, I couldn't help thinking about how they're going feel when they're circling their drains of life. Many have said that as they're approaching the very end, their lives flash before them, which I've come to consider it being similar to climbing a very long stairway, and once the top has been reached, many are expecting a congratulating crowd of fans, but unfortunately for many, once they're at the top of their stairways to nowhere, the hard truths of greed and selfishness are realized, because at that moment, their so-called achievements are disintegrated into circling clouds of black dust. Oh well, we all have to remind ourselves that the paths we've chosen are our own asphalts. Don't you think our vanities are what keep us from become more selfless?
Since I had to make a quick stop for a few grocery items, I happened upon a really good meat buy at Hy-Vee West, so I ended up walking out with far more than I'd expected, so now my trusty freezer is getting all the more loaded up for winter.
Tonight's One-liner is: Small minds are concerned with the extraordinary, whilst great minds are focused on the ordinary.
