Top Social Media Platforms for Entrepreneurs: How to Use Them Effectively

When it comes to social media, it’s not only about how you show up, it’s also WHERE you show up! But with the world of social media constantly evolving and changing, as entrepreneurs, it can be tough to keep up with the latest in trends and platforms. However, staying up to date on all of this is critical if you want to be successful in maintaining a strong online presence and reaching your customers.

THE TOP FOUR

So for 2023, here are the top 5 platforms you should be showing up on and how to do so effectively.

  • Instagram - Who isn’t on Instagram these days? If you want to reach people, you’ve got to be on Instagram. It’s oftentimes one of the first places customers will go to find out more about you.
  • Facebook - This is still the social media giant. It’s a great place to post, engage and also get a business page set up for yourself.
  • Tik Tok - Trendy short-form video is all the rage. In fact, a lot of what we are seeing on Tik Tok oftentimes makes it onto other platforms.
  • Live audio - Podcasts, Facebook Live, and Clubhouse are all great ideas. Everyone loves a good visual post or a quick reel, but having the opportunity to speak on something for a longer period of time and more in-depth is really a very effective way to reach your audience. It helps them really get to know you and your product/business.

Now if this feels like too much for your right away, that’s okay! You can just focus on one platform first to get yourself started. I’ve also got a great episode of Rocky Mountain Marketing with Amy Carter full of tips on where you can find your audience and how to pick the best platforms that are right for you and your company. It’s okay to start small!

?BE EFFECTIVE

So now that you’ve narrowed down your top platforms, how do you show up effectively? Ask yourself…Which of these is going to be most effective for your business? Where does your audience show up? Which ones have the features that will work for your service or product? Then you can use the tips below to better understand how to use the platforms above to their fullest potential.

  • Create a well-planned strategy. This will likely be different for each platform. So create a plan for how you’ll use each one accordingly in order to reach your goals. This should include what to post, how to post, and when to post.
  • Create engaging content that people will want to view and interact with. This includes videos, imagery, audio, etc. Make sure it’s high quality and of value. If you need help figuring out how to create good content, check out my most recent blog post . It’s full of information on how to create your content with your audience in mind, and make sure it contains valuable information for them.?
  • Be authentic, show the real you, and engage! Your audience and customers are more likely to buy from you if you seem trustworthy and they can relate to you. You also HAVE to engage, respond, comment, and interact with a community in order to keep them. Also, be genuine with your engagement, and don’t hesitate to let your personalities and brand values shine!
  • Monitor and keep tabs on what is working and what isn’t. Keeping track of what platforms are performing well and what ones aren’t is imperative in how you adjust your strategy.

Curious if you’re showing up in the right places and in the right way? We’d love to help you figure that out!
