We all have those "Super Stars" in our organization. We wish so badly that we could duplicate those people because it would solve so many things. Thanks to the stellar performance from the top performers, it helps even out the lower performance from the under performers.
Why would we keep allowing our top performers to carry our under performers? The top performers know who they are and they also know who the bottom performers are. It creates a very frustrating and discouraging culture to continually have the burden to carry the under performers.
Give everyone every possible to chance to prove themselves and be successful. Give them all the attention they need. Give them all the tools they need. Give them all the resources they need. Give them all the training and mentoring they need.
If after all of that they are still an under performer, find another place within your organization for them or other solution. And do it sooner than later - if they are an under performer, they are probably just as frustrated as you are and would more than likely welcome a change or other solution.
Create a culture and atmosphere of top performers. Surround yourself with greatness and your results with be nothing but greatness.

7 年It's tough to make decisions and take action on the under-performers; goes against a lot of facets of human nature. But, it needs to be done, because if you are not careful, management will be spending too much time coaching under-performers. Instead, management should be establishing stretch goals, and defining tactics to reach them; combined with coaching the top performers to help surpass the competition.
