Mathematics by Sound Sultan

Sound sultan who was born Olarewaju Fasasi can be considered as one of the pacesetters of today’s hip-hop. He took a keen interest in music in 1991 and has since then been a trailblazer. He also attributes his early influence to his elder brother Baba Dee, who studied theatre arts. His career in show business started in the 1990’s when he hosted shows so as to raise money for his studio sessions. His hit single “mathematics” was later released that same year. It became a street anthem Mathematics later won an educational award in 2016 which was16 years after it was released.  The song remains a true classic and even borrows a leaf from Fela Anikulapo Kuti style of deduction and reasoning. Sound sultan in this song addresses the ills of his present society. He mainly attacks the government and the corrupt rich people of his generation and states matter of fact how their corrupt does affect not only our nation Nigeria but the continent at large. The fact that he speaks in Pidgin English which can easily be understood by illiterates and the educated ensures that the song breaks the language barrier.

My Car by Tony Tetulla

Tony Tetulla born Anthony Olarewaju Awotoyewas formerly a member of “The Remedies” split from the group and went on to become a successful solo artiste. He has released two successful sinlges “My Car” and “E Go Better”. The song “My Car” scored the artiste, Tony Tetulla one of the biggest hits of his career. It was however rumored that the song was a sly diss to his former group mate Eedris Abdulkareem and a shout out to the then governor of Lagos State Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However the song became one of the huge successes of that period.

Love Me Jeje by Seyi Sodumu

Seyi Sodunmu is also known as Mr Jeje or Seyi is best known for his hit single “Love me Jeje” which skyrocketed him to fame and even made me one a pioneer of the ever growing Music Industry. “Love me Jeje” presents and showcases the romantic side of the African man and how much he adores and respects his lady, thinking about her day and night, ready to take care of her at whatever cost and still admiring her in a respectable manner. A major commendation must be given to the songwriter and artiste for the way he potrays the African woman in a lovely manner without sexualizing her in any way.

Mo So Rire by Paul Play Dairo

Paul Play Dairo put a modern twist to the evergreen song that is a success till today thereby making it one of the best versions to the song. He is also the son to the legendary IK Dairo. The song “Mo So Rire” is simply a thanksgiving song to God giving him praises for all that he has done in his life.
