The year 2020, will be remembered for many things, and new electronics will be one of them. In this article, we’ll introduce you to some new technology including some not so hot products. The one caveat to all of our technological articles is that you should never trust just one source of information and you should always do your own research for any product you plan to buy. First off, I feel that it’s only right to focus on some electronic devices that claim to improve your overall health. A new trend for 2020 is the ultraviolet light device (ULD). With the increase in concern of bacteria, viruses, and communicable diseases, demand has risen for reliable ways to cleanse or disinfect ourselves and products that we come in contact with. The following devices claim to reduce or eliminate up to 99.9% of surface bacteria and to constrain various viruses like the H1N1 flu virus.

With all of that in mind, I direct you to always read the fine print, which in the case of Mobile Klean, a highly marketed ULD product from China, states “We do not warrant that the quality of any products, services, information, or other material purchased or obtained by you will meet your expectations, or that any errors in the Service will be corrected”. The author contacted the product maker in China but they had no response or comment. Therefore, buyer beware.

Conversely, at a slightly higher premium, an America-based provider of predefined size self-contained ultraviolet-c (UV-C) cleaners, Phone Soap (Home Soap, etc.) offers a very reasonable 1-year repair, exchange or refund warranty to ensure our satisfaction.

Next let’s move on to self-indulgence, with the new remote temperature-controlled mug by Ember. Although it carries a fairly hefty price tag ($100+) this mug connects to an app on your phone to set and maintain the perfect beverage temperature. Say goodbye to the old school plugin mug-warmer!

Or maybe, you prefer to just have water? Well, then how about using your new UV-C Self Cleaning Water Bottle by Larq? This product claims to not only clean itself using UV-C light but it also cleans the water you’ll be drinking the same way. For $125+, I guess it should.

Perhaps, you’re looking for an audio solution that’s compact and easy to wear? Well, then the new scratch/shatter-resistant sunglasses by Bose may be just the thing you’re looking for. Coming in at $250 per pair, the sunglasses claim to be light, operate on Bluetooth technology and allegedly, still allow you to listen to music without other people hearing what you’re listening to.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted many businesses and impacted the release dates and distribution methods for many products, the ingenuity of the human spirit is not removed. The creative mind does not simply shut-down. Many of these minds will continue to work in isolation and later through collaboration to improve existing designs, imagine new products and find new markets that need to be serviced. In the end, technology, like the great people of this planet will emerge stronger, more reliable and with an exciting new perspective. But it will take time and positive support.
