Top Management skills of a Good Manager are Personal values rather than Technical skills

??Employees consider that behavioral skills that govern how managers act and interact with others prove to be the most important managerial traits.

Being trustworthy was voted the top managerial quality by over two-thirds (69%) of employees, closely followed by being respectful and treating everyone fairly (66%). Other essential attributes that employees think good managers need to possess are honesty and authenticity, a positive attitude, and being reliable and consistent with their teams. Interestingly, age factor doesn't influence the criteria for being a good manager and young and old people have the same opinion, according to a new interesting research published by Ciphr using data from an online survey between 12-15 June 2023 - 1,000 UK adults working at organizations with at least 26 employees.

Top 20 must-have skills of a good manager


Researchers found that over half of employees also rated a manager as being ‘good’ if they can demonstrate that they are an effective communicator, a collaborative team player, organized, open to feedback, and an empathic listener.

Employees also want their managers to show both recognition and appreciation of others.

Good manager traits by different age groups

Researchers noticed that young employees compared to other age groups placed a lot of importance on the fact that the manager was more committed to results orientation, multitasking, confident and decisive. Older employees placed more importance on Trustworthy, and respecting and treating people fairly.


Researchers found the Top 10 must-have skills and attributes of a good manager is :

??Respectful and treats everyone fairly (66%)

??Honest and authentic (62%)

??Has a positive attitude (61%)

??Reliable and consistent (60%)

??Warm and friendly (58%)

??Compassionate and supportive (56%)

??A leader / leads by example (56%)

??Effective communicator (55%)

??A team player who encourages collaboration (54%)

Good managers qualities by Organizational role



?? Researchers believed that organizations often promote managers based on how good they are at their jobs and can forget to look at whether they possess the right skills and attributes to be a great manager.

?? This wonderful research demonstrates that many of the traits that are deemed important to being a good manager are based on personal values and how people come across in their behaviors, rather than the technical skills and knowledge they might have and how well they do their job.

??Finally researchers conclude that behavioral skills that govern how managers act and interact with others prove to be the most important managerial traits to most employees.
