Top Lessons We Have Learnt Since Our Launch
Sustainable growth.
It’s a virtue every company aims to achieve. But as things stand, many organizations fail to remain relevant in the long run.
Why’s that? What do most businesses lack, that ruins their chances of success? Are you worried you may become one of them?
Such questions are viable regardless of a company’s nature, scale, turnover, or industry. And today I will shed light on them. As an entrepreneur who built a business from scratch and has been running it successfully for 8+ years, I have gained some keen insights about this stuff.
Here is a glimpse of the top lessons we learned since launching the company.
How to Build A Successful Business from the Ground Up
1. Build a Sales and Marketing Team
Investing resources in a sales and marketing team is not something that can wait. Imagine this, you have built an intuitive product with everything the client asked for. You delivered the product and the client is extremely satisfied.
But how will this success derive new leads for your business? You can’t rely on your friends and family to generate leads forever, right? This is where marketing chimes in. Only when you start showing what you have achieved and how you achieved it, will more prospects learn about you.
The same goes for a sales team. You need sales experts and executives to fetch leads, work on them, and maintain healthy relationships with the new clients. This facilitates word-of-mouth marketing while also ensuring future business from them.
2. Establish Systems and Processes
“We are just starting. We are a smaller team. Oh, this is just the start, we will have established systems in the future.”
These are the talks of a business that is bound to run into impending troubles. Speaking from experience, every business needs to identify and set processes from the get-go.
Take this for example, how will a massive food chain like McDonald's ensure the same taste is delivered to each customer across its 38,000 stores? You got it - through a streamlined set of systems & processes.
You need established processes to ensure you are delivering the same quality perpetually. It maintains productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness all around the company.
3. Create a Healthy Work Culture
By work culture, I am not simply referring to office lunches. I am talking about creating an environment where creativity is celebrated and everyone gets learning opportunities.
Keeping your team members satisfied is good, but keeping them hungry for growth is ideal. You can do it in multiple ways. You can build a team who’s innovative, wants to grow, and develops critical thinking.
You can conduct learning and brainstorming sessions. Foster a culture where team members understand their roles and responsibilities and are constantly challenged to achieve the extraordinary. Do this, and you will generate a team of future leaders.
4. Focus on Quality
This goes without saying for the final product. Of course, you want to deliver high-quality products to the client.
What many emerging businesses don’t realize is that they need to maintain quality in other aspects as well. Be it writing an email, communicating about unexpected issues, or understanding new requirements, you must maintain quality throughout the proceedings.
At the end of the day, clients won’t just remember your product, they will also remember you.
5. Involve Experts
Running a successful long-running business is not all about your fortes at all times. There are bound to be some areas where you might not boast such expertise.
Take a water leakage in your home as an example. Sure, you can fix it temporarily at times, but wouldn’t calling a plumber to get the job done be more efficient? That is why you need to involve experts in most situations.
Hiring an expert developer will save you time and money in several instances. Getting a marketing expert will establish well-rounded systems in a jiffy. Expert project managers will handle your operations in a seamless manner. And the list goes on.
So, while it’s crucial to look for aspiring talent, involving experts, be it on any level, is also crucial.
In conclusion, building a successful business is tough, but totally achievable with a sound approach. Like Rome was not built in a day, you won’t nail everything right away either. It will take time, resources, patience, and first-hand experience to get it done. But as long as you remember these lessons, you will experience smoother sailing than most around you.
