As a Global Travel Category Manager there is a considerable amount strategic work that goes into managing a global travel program. Over the next few weeks, I will post some of my short and long term suggestions for reducing corporate travel costs.

Corporate travel programs are always impacted with higher costs when employees book travel with little or no advance purchase. Consider creating a strong corporate travel policy around last minute travel. New travel booking technologies coming into the market will include intuitive travel tools that will “live” inside corporate exchange calendars and prompt employees to look at travel options and costs as meetings or events are scheduled. Planning travel expenses in advance not only provides greater selection within travel inventory, it also saves the company money.
