April Legal Recruitment Market Update
The legal recruitment market is exhibiting a bearish trend, which is unexpected during a period where a bullish trend is typically observed. Despite this, the junior legal market has remained positive, with a multitude of opportunities available for lawyers with 2-5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE). However, there has been a slower demand this month for Senior Legal Counsels compared to previous months.
In contrast to the previous year, both the General Counsel and Head of Legal markets have experienced a slower movement, with a 15% decrease in activity in April. As the year progresses, a clearer picture of the market's direction will emerge over the next two months as the data is further analyzed. It is important to note that this data only accounts for roles in the open market and does not include those managed by agencies.
This trend is also evident in the junior legal market, although to a lesser extent. While there remains a relatively high demand for junior lawyers, the market demand is lower compared to 2022.
