The Top Five Regrets of The Dying

The Top Five Regrets of The Dying

Dear Family,

Earlier this week, I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across a post titled "The Top Five Regrets of the Dying."

It was based on a book by Bronnie Ware, who spent years as a caregiver for terminally ill patients and conducted thousands of interviews before writing her book. The regrets shared by her patients were profound:

  1. “I wish I’d had the courage to live true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”
  2. “I wish I had let myself be happier.”
  3. “I wish I had the courage to express my feelings.”
  4. “I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.”
  5. “I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.”

What struck me was that at the end of one's life, no one reflects on material things like the car they drove or the size of their house.

Instead, it’s all about how they spent their time and how those moments made them feel. This is why I’m so passionate about intentional living. I refuse to wait until I’m on my deathbed to look back and wonder if I truly lived well. Every day we wake up and breathe is another opportunity to make the most of what we have.

We only have one life to live, and it's on us to make it count.

From Lux, With Love

Matt
