The Top Five Reasons you Should Join a Mastermind Group

Several years ago when I was transitioning out of my corporate career as a national team leader for a leading health club chain I knew that I wanted to continue pursuing my personal mission statement of "helping people optimize their performance." For almost three decades I had coached people in fitness, sport and business to help them grow and achieve their goals, so continuing with a career aligned with my personal 'why' made sense in everyway.

As I began to build my executive leadership coaching and business consulting practice I started to research the many benefits of 'mastermind' or 'peer advisory' groups. This led me to Vistage, the worldwide leader in CEO and executive peer groups and I had the good fortune of becoming a Chair and launching a CEO group here in Tucson, AZ. Since that time it has grown to serve over 40 CEO's and Executives, with around 20 members fully active and engaged at any given time.

Flash forward now several years later I find myself totally enamored with the value that our mastermind group brings to our members both in terms of professional AND personal development. We have seen our members exceed their business goals as well as achieve many personal goals too from losing weight, finishing triathlons, improving work/life balance and enhancing their personal relationships. Members who fully engage and embrace the process, showing up to take part "in the room" each month realize so many benefits and grow faster as a result of the group.

Below, I have compiled a list of the TOP FIVE reasons you should consider joining a mastermind (or peer advisory) group as a vehicle to accelerate your personal and professional growth.

  1. Diverse perspectives: Mastermind groups are composed of individuals with diverse backgrounds, skills, and experiences. This variety of perspectives can provide you with valuable insights, fresh ideas, and a new outlook on challenges that you may be facing.
  2. Accountability: In a mastermind group, you are held accountable to your goals and commitments by the other members and by your coach. This can help you stay on track and motivated to achieve your objectives.
  3. Support: The members of a mastermind group offer each other support and encouragement. This can help you stay resilient during challenging times and celebrate your successes with a like-minded community.
  4. Networking: Mastermind groups provide an opportunity to network with other professionals in your field or industry, as well as outside of it. This can lead to new partnerships, collaborations, and business opportunities.
  5. Learning: Mastermind groups often include structured learning opportunities such as guest speakers, workshops, or book clubs. This can help you expand your knowledge and skill set.

Overall, joining a mastermind/peer advisory group can provide you with a supportive community, new perspectives, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

As a coach and facilitator of these groups I highly encourage every professional to find one in your area and to jump in with both feet. It'll change your life in so many ways!

Coach Troy, researched Vintage and not sure they would take a Government Services equivalent of a CEO. Any suggestions?
