It’s the season for ghostly ghouls and trick-or-treating. Halloween has arrived in Southern Maryland and there are many devilish activities to choose from to celebrate this fun-filled holiday. So bring along some apple cider and have fun at our top five Halloween activities in the area.
Ghost Tours of Historic Hagerstown
Where: Historic Hagerstown
When: Friday, October 18th from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Jump on the hay wagon and hold on for this spectacular City Center Ghost Tour. Enjoy this eerie tour as your guide describes the stories of Historic Hagerstown’s ghostly past. Listen for the vanishing horse steps at the old firehouse or the mysterious and spine-shivering noises of City Hall. Keep your eye out for the skeletons of the Maryland Theater and any other ghouls lurking about. This historically spooky event is just what you need to get you and the whole family in the Halloween spirit.
O.C.toberfest Beach Maze
Where: Ocean City
When: October 19th-20th and 26th-27th, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays; 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sundays
Put on your costumes and join the fun at Ocean City’s giant Halloween Beach Maze. The maze includes ghouls in the graveyard, witches and spells, zombies, pirates, and spooky scarecrows. Kids can participate in an I Spy game throughout the maze for a chance to win prizes. If you plan to be there on October 19th, don’t miss the Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade or the Drive and Disguise Parade.
Cornstalkers Trail of Terror
Where: Waldorf, MD
When: October 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 24th-27th, and the 31st from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm
If you’re looking for a truly terrifying Halloween experience, the Cornstalkers Trail of Terror may be the event for you. It’s advised that this is not a family affair if anyone in your family is under the age of 13. The main attraction is the Trail of Terror and is made up of over 9,000 sq. feet of twists and terrifying turns through dark hallways, cornstalk trails, and rooms of horror. The newest attraction is called the Asylum, and though it is merely 2,400 sq. feet, it’s sure to have you terrified.
Halloween In The Garden
Where: Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center
When: October 26th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Annmarie Garden is looking forward to hosting its 20th Annual Halloween in the Garden this year. Booths will be decorated in spooky fashion by over 70 vendors, all of which will be handing out candy to trick or treaters. Activities will be provided for the kids and food vendors will be cooking up some devilish dishes. Admission fee is $2 and includes a trick-or-treat bag, and all proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
Trick or Treat on the Square
Where: Leonardtown
When: October 26th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Dress up the family, bring your trick-or-treat bags, and visit the businesses of Leonardtown for Halloween candies and toys. Face painting will be available courtesy of the artists of St. Mary’s County Wine & Design/Art Buzz Kids. Don’t forget about the family pet – dress them up too and enter to win in the SMAWL pet costume contest.
