Top FinTech Influencers in 2020

Top FinTech Influencers in 2020

There are two months left before 2020 is finally over. Therefore, it might be the right time to create the first "end of the year" list. Since my main focus is in the fintech industry, I would highlight "Top FinTech Influencers in 2020".

The list has only five positions and the order doesn't reflect the "power" of influencers. The main supporting arguments I have to claim these are the most influential figures in fintech in 2020 are the following:

  1. I have heard about these people consistently for at least 2 or more years.
  2. I find their content on social media to be incredibly valuable and helpful if you work in the fintech industry.
  3. The engagement on their channels is coming from real people.

Without further due, let's dive directly into it:

#1 Simon Tyler, the Co-Founder and Head of Ventures at 11:FS.

With 35k+ followers on Twitter and 15k+ on Linkedin, Simon shares both interesting insights about the fintech industry and generally cool stuff. What really breaks a deal for me though is that he is standing behind 11:FS Consultancy - the golden mine for fintech knowledge and content.

#2 Chris Skinner, a fintech mastodonte. Yes, mastodonte.

Chris has been influencing fintech landscape long before I was born and will probably continue doing so after I finally quit everything and start a van life with no Internet access. Speaker, author and advisor - Chris Skinner has it all and if you didn't yet read any of his books, you know what to do next. Following him on Twitter is more fun for me personally than on LinkedIn.

#3 David Sandstrom, Chief Marketing Officer at Klarna.

Sebastian Siemiatkowski is the co-founder and the CEO of Klarna. But the legendary pink brand we all know today was largely created thanks to David. Not so active on Twitter, following him on Linkedin helps to keep a close look on all initiatives of Klarna and witness how marketing in payment industry can be epic.

#4 Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, and the founder and CEO of Square.

DON'T JUDGE ME. I know it is like saying Elon Musk is an influencer in the mobility industry. Jack's impact is spreading way beyond just the payment industry not to mention he didn't even start there to begin with. HOWEVER, for me Square is one of THE MOST impactful companies in the world when it come to fintech development. And he is the driving force behind the company. How Square acted during the first COVID outbreak sets an example for the whole industry and the corporate world in general. This alone is enough to have him on my list of the Top Fintech Influencers of 2020.

#5 Amit Goel, Founder of MEDICI Global.

Similar to Simon Tyler, I started following Amit after I got familiar with gomedici.com. When I just started working in fintech, this source was my guiding star. It is rare when you see such precise content steering that is simply always on-point. Amit shares the highlights on his Twitter and I strongly recommend to follow both him and the official medici account.

All of these people are very different but have one thing in common - they shape the fintech industry the way we know it today. Some of them by creating a very successful business or supporting others, some of them by taking a critical look at everything what is going on and introducing a perspective so valuable that thousands of people would share their voice.

I wish I could add at least one female fintech influencer to the list without conducting any additional research. At the moment I can't. I would really appreciate a recommendation from you.

Thank you for the kind words :) Just a heads up, we don't have a Blockchain practice at 11:FS. I'm head of ventures and work with clients on their strategy & lead teams to execute on that :)
