Stainless steel feed tank repaired and protected with Belzona

Combatting Corrosion at a Nickel Mine in Australia?

Location: Australia?

Problem: Corrosion under insulation on an ammonium sulphate feed tank.?

Solution Highlights:?

Belzona SuperWrap II was utilised to restore and protect a 9.5 metre (31.2 ft) diameter feed tank at a major blue-chip nickel mine. The tank, operating at elevated temperatures of approximately 70°C (158°F) and handling highly corrosive media, suffered from corrosion under insulation and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.

The repair was completed within just 24 hours, circumventing the need for costly and time-intensive asset replacement. By leveraging cold-curing technology, the project eliminated the hazards and downtime associated with hot work, enhancing both safety and efficiency.

This project supports sustainable practices by extending the life of critical equipment in the nickel industry, which is integral to the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.?

The propeller shaft showed heavy wear due to seawater corrosion

The shaft was reconstructed back to its original profile using Belzona 1111 (Super Metal). Two protective coats of Belzona 5821 were then applied to ensure long-term resistance against erosion and corrosion.?

The solution preserved a vital piece of history, restoring the 19th century ship’s propeller shaft avoided costly replacement while maintaining the vessel's authenticity.?

This application underscores Belzona’s role in not just industrial innovation but also in safeguarding cultural and historical heritage.?

A corroded pipeline at a Spanish refinery was restored with a composite wrap system

Repairing an 872 Metre Oil Pipeline in Spain?

Location: Spain?

Problem: Severe corrosion on an underground oil pipeline.?

Solution Highlights:?

At a Spanish refinery, an underground pipeline was severely corroded, and disastrous consequences—both financially and from an environmental perspective—could have ensued if the corroded pipeline was not addressed.

A combination of Belzona 1111 (Super Metal), Belzona 7311, and Belzona SuperWrap II was used to restore and reinforce the pipeline.?Additionally, Belzona 5811 was applied for long-term anti-corrosion protection.?

By opting for Belzona’s polymeric solutions, the refinery avoided the environmental and financial costs of replacing the pipeline, aligning with the oil and gas industry’s decarbonisation goals.
