The more technology we introduce in the industry to help us communicate, the less we actually communicate.

Most business people will only return 20% of your messages, and it seems like 80% of the phone calls are voicemails.

Then be a “Professional” at leaving voicemails to get a return message.

So think through what you are going to say before you place the call.

You can write out what you want to say beforehand to make everything clear and concise.

Check out the Top 9 Voicemail Tips to help you make more this 2019 and beyond!

1.   Research

Know whom you are talking to. Look them up on LinkedIn. You can Google their name with the word "insurance" or Google their email address.

2.   Don't leave info

If your goal is to get the phone call returned, don't leave information that would allow the person to make up their mind (We are an IMO/MGA recruiter).

3.   CTA (Call-to-Action)

Add a call-to-action to your message by providing a key date or something of interest that will encourage the person to return the call. You have to create a reason for them to call you back e.g. "Call me and I can show you how to… Make More Money or Easily Close More Sales".

4.   Repeat your phone number twice

If the person can't quickly write your number down, you've given them a perfect reason to not call back.

5.   Don't give them a reason not to call you

Avoid asking the person to call you back at a certain time. This provides them with an excuse not to call you. Never state in the message that you will plan to call them back. Again, this only gives the person an excuse to ignore your message.

6.   Time zones

Be aware of time zones when making calls. Start your calls with the east coast and work your way to the west.

7.   Be brief

The optimal voicemail message is between 8 and 14 seconds. People are busy and they don't want to waste their time listening to a 5-minute voicemail.

8.   Add P.S.

Leave a "P.S." at the end of your message. A "P.S." is a very quick, additional piece of information that will help you connect with the person.

9.   Mention the receiver's name

Mention the person's first name at least twice in the message, but don't use their last name (doing so comes across as very impersonal).

Don't wait until tomorrow. The opportunity might return your call today!

Feel free to share these tips with everyone in your company ... because everyone in your company leaves a voicemail.
