Top 8 projects launched in August 2024: Revealed

August is typically a month when the construction industry begins to pick up pace after the summer lull, especially in the Middle East. Despite the region’s sweltering heat, which often slows down activity, this August has defied expectations with a surge of project launches across various sectors.

This month has seen a wave of ambitious developments, with notable contributions from leading developers like Dubai Investments, Diyar Al Muharraq, MERED, Alef Group, ROSHN as well as emerging players making their mark.


1.?Dubai Investments Real Estate, Al Mujama: DIP solar power plant

Type: 1.2-megawatt solar power plant

Features: 2,000 solar panels expected to generate 1.9 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually

Dubai Investments Real Estate (DIR) and Al Mujama, in collaboration with Yellow Door Energy and Clyde Engineering, have launched a 1.2-megawatt solar power plant in the RITAJ residential community within Dubai Investments Park.

The new solar power system, which spans across nine residential buildings, includes over 2,000 solar panels and is expected to generate 1.9 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually.

This will meet 30% of the buildings’ energy needs and reduce carbon emissions by 756,000 kilograms per year. Implemented under a solar lease model, the project allows Al Mujama to achieve significant cost savings without upfront capital investment.

2.?Diyar Al Muharraq: Al Naseem Social Hub

Type: Premium leisure hub

Features: Two gyms, rooftop padel courts, multi-purpose hall, indoor and outdoor play areas, sauna, and a steam room

Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the leading real estate developers in the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced the upcoming inauguration of the long-awaited Al Naseem Social Hub.

Within this social hub will be walkways, entertainment areas, and state-of-the-art service and commercial facilities.

The Bahraini developer has appointed?Hisham Abdelrahman Jaafar ?(HAJ) Construction as the project manager, while Mohamed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau (MSCEB) is the main project consultant and is handling the construction phases.

The centre will have two gyms—one for men and the other for women—rooftop padel courts, a multi-purpose hall, indoor and outdoor play areas, a sauna, and a steam room.

6.?ROSHN, Saudi Aramco: Khobar stadium

Type: Multi-functional stadium

Features: 45,000 seats, crystalline architecture

ROSHN Group, a leading real estate developer in Saudi Arabia and a PIF Company, and Aramco have announced plans for a 47,000-seat stadium in Khobar on Saudi Arabia’s eastern coast.

The?Saudi Press Agency?reported ?on Wednesday that the multifunctional stadium is expected to be completed and operational by 2026. It will host both national and international events, including the AFC Asian Cup in January 2027, and will also be the home ground for Aramco-owned Al Qadsiah Club.

The stadium’s design is inspired by whirlpool-like formations observed in the Arabian Gulf off Khobar. It will include integrated cooling systems, VIP sections and facilities designed to cater to community needs and individuals with special needs.

8. Iraq: Ur Tourist City

Features: Cultural centre, open-air Sumerian theatre, a closed Ur theatre, and interfaith dialogue centre, and an administrative wing

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shi’a Al-Sudani inaugurated the first phase of the Ur Tourist City project in Dhi Qar Governorate last week.

The current phase of the project includes the construction of a ?cultural centre, an open-air Sumerian theatre, a closed Ur theatre, an interfaith dialogue centre and an administrative wing, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.

Al-Sudani’s office has also announced plans for a further expansion that include a 400-room hotel, drama production city, the Khatam Al-Anbiya Mosque, and a heritage market within Ur City, all as part of a strategic package funded by the Dhi Qar Construction Fund.
