Top 7 tips to create custom mill tools

To create a custom milling tool, use the following steps:

1.Create geometry that matches the revolution profile of the tool. The geometry must be a continuous chain of elements with no gaps or overlaps.

2.Draw geometry relative to P0 (the origin point), P0 being the drive point of the tool. The Y-axis is the revolution axis of the tool geometry.

3.Once you have finished drawing the tool profile, select the whole profile geometry (and nothing else).

4.On the File menu, select Save As and set Save As Type to Tool Geometry Files. Make a note of the name and directory under which you store the .ect file.

5.On the Machining menu, select Milling Tools and then select Custom Mill.

6.On the Geometry page, select Browse to retrieve the stored .ect file and define the geometry settings. The tool geometry displays in the preview window.

7.Fill in the other tool properties and click Ok.

The tool is created.
