Introduction:
Who doesn't miss the school days?
Most of us have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of schooling. We got to learn a lot, built long-lasting friendships created amazing memories. It's something we can look back into and definitely puts a smile on our faces every time we think about our past. It's helped us become who we are in some way. All of us have our own unique experiences with the school.
If you're reading this and are in school, you have a great head start. For those of you, who are out of school, this is still applicable to you too...Learning never ends.
Here are a few things that schools have definitely failed to teach us -
1. Original Thinking:
Every bit of information is fed to you. The information you gather in school is pretty much useless in the sense of practical application. It's great. But you actually don't need so much information in your head all at the same time. Not a reason to not perform though. I am in no way suggesting that school is completely useless.
2. Creativity-
This one is special. Because of your daily mundane routine, your creativity is out of the window. There is not much creative activity happening. You're forced to perform. Assignments and homework, tests, and exams. Multiple subjects. Do something other than academics to keep your creative juices flowing. Create. Art. Music. Writing. Whatever floats for you.
3. Money Management:
Right after college, there is an untold societal expectation that the all-educated "You" will now carry the baton of responsibilities for your family. Making money out there in the world. But the hard fact is that you don't know a thing about how money works. They only teach you how to manage accounts for someone else. They don't teach you how money is generated, sustained, and then scaled. You need to educate yourself about finances and investment. It's a never-ending adventure. If someone says "Money doesn't matter" just run away from this person. They don't know what they're talking about. Multiple sources of revenue they say, you can do this with a job as well.
4. Problem-Solving:
I'm not talking about your high school math problems here. I'm talking about real life, concrete, legit problems. Not many people will tell you this, but you're actually paid to solve some sort of problem at someone's business or your own. The bigger the size of the problem, the bigger the takeaway (money). Pick a problem, keep solving it, get paid. They aren't teaching this at school now, are they?

5. How to Learn:
The whole premise of a schooling system is to teach you what to learn. If you're lucky enough, you will come across a teacher or professor who might just teach you how to learn. For some reason, they just left this out of the curriculum. You don't even know why you're learning most of the stuff you're learning. Learning should be made practical and experiential. If you learn how to learn, you can teach yourself almost anything under the sun. You become an information sponge because now you have a framework to consume, retain, and reproduce information better than your peers and most people around you. So, please spend the time learning how to learn.
6. Productivity:
Have you seen ants? All of them are busy doing something. They appear to be doing something or the other continuously. Same with schooling. Everyone appears to be constantly doing something or the other. But take a look closer. Most stuff you're doing at school is pretty useless. Minimum input, maximum output. That's productivity
You should learn the process of bringing value to the hour. You could be doing a task for 10 hours. But if you know the same task does not take more than 1 hour, then you know you’re not being productive.?
Conclusion:
Education and learning is a life-long journey, it does not end at school. There are many things we don't know that we don't know. The path to self-improvement is paved with a lot of trial, error, and failure. It stems from the curiosity and hunger to learn. Make it a point to keep your mind open to new experiences and to new information. Remember, you die when you stop learning. If there is one line that can sum up our lives, it would be this...
" To live is to learn, because in learning is growing, and in growth lies happiness"
Now that's an original quote, feel free to steal it.
