TOP 6 SEO INTERVIEW QUESTION ANSWERS FOR BEGINNERS
Luckily, I wasn't asked many difficult questions during my first SEO interview. As a beginner, I had only read the definition of SEO from the internet before applying to my first SEO job. However, I would highly recommend that anyone interested in pursuing a career in SEO should take the free SEO courses provided by the wsCube channel or the Hubspot Academy Free Certification Course before applying for their first full-time job.
Before joining my first company, I never thought I would be doing SEO in the future, let alone love the job. My friend Amna (I'm masking her name with an alternative name) suggested that I choose SEO as a career option. She had an interview for her first SEO job and advised me to join as well. I applied, and luckily, I got selected.
One thing I must mention is that I've always been a very confident person, which helped me clear the interview easily. Additionally, since the interview was for a fresh graduate with zero experience, that could also be the reason for not being asked any technical questions. The interview lasted for 15-20 minutes, and the questions asked were:
Question 1: Tell me about yourself
Question 2: Why did you choose SEO?
Question 3: Why did you choose SEO instead of a biomedical-related job?
Question 4: What is on-page SEO?
Question 5: What is off-page SEO?
Question 6: Have you ever worked before in any corporate as an SEO (Internship)?
Question 1: Tell me about yourself
The question "Tell me about yourself" is a common one asked during job interviews. This is often the first question that is asked, and it's important to answer it well in order to make a good impression. Also, try to answer this question in English to make a good first impression. Reflect back on yourself and try to understand your passions and career goals. Make your story interesting, and learn it in English by heart. Be fluent while speaking about yourself.
When answering this question, it's important to keep in mind that the interviewer wants to know about you in relation to the job you're applying for. You should highlight your skills, experience, and achievements that are relevant to the position.
You can start by introducing yourself with your name, your educational background, and any relevant work experience you have. You can also talk about any particular achievements or skills that are relevant to the job. It's important to keep your answer concise and to the point, and to avoid rambling or going off-topic.
My Answer: My name is Aasma, and I recently graduated from NED University of Engineering and Technology with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. During my third year of university, I started working as a freelance content writer in 3rd year of University, and that's when I became interested in learning about on-page SEO. As I explored more about SEO, I found it fascinating, and now I want to pursue a career in it. I gained valuable experience in writing and content creation, which I believe will be a great asset to my future career in SEO
Question 2: Why did you choose SEO?
My Answer: There were several reasons why I chose SEO as my career path. First of all, as a content writer, I realized the importance of SEO in driving traffic to websites and improving their visibility on search engines. Moreover, the constantly evolving nature of SEO keeps me motivated to learn and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques. Question 3: Why did you choose SEO instead of a biomedical-related job?
Believe me, I did not know how to answer this question. So, I took a deep breath and tried to figure out what could be the best answer. I ended up answering it in a similar way as I did for question no. 2.

My Answer: I chose SEO over a biomedical-related job because while studying biomedical engineering, I realized that my true passion was in digital marketing and creating online content. I found myself enjoying courses related to marketing and communication more than those related to biology and engineering. I also noticed the increasing importance of digital marketing and how it has become an essential part of every industry, including the healthcare industry. Therefore, I decided to explore this field and pursue a career in SEO, which I find more challenging, dynamic, and exciting
Question 4: What is on-page SEO?
This is the must have question.
My Answer: On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. This includes optimizing elements such as page titles, headings, content, images, and internal links. The goal of on-page optimization is to ensure that the website is easily understandable for both users and search engines, making it more likely to rank higher in search engine results pages
The answer you should give is : On-page SEO refers to the optimization of individual web pages to improve their ranking and visibility in search engines. It involves optimizing the content, HTML source code, and site architecture of a webpage to make it more attractive to search engines and increase its relevance to specific keywords and phrases. This includes elements such as title tags, meta descriptions, header tags, content quality and structure, keyword usage, image optimization, and internal linking. The main goal of on-page SEO is to make a webpage user-friendly and relevant to both search engines and users, thereby improving its search engine ranking and driving more organic traffic to the site.
Question 5: What is off-page SEO?
To be honest, I wasn't very familiar with off-page SEO My answer was very vague.
My Answer: The answer I gave was that off-page SEO is something related to backlinks, but I don't know much about backlinks. I assumed that this is something done on another website, while on-page SEO is the work done on our websit
The answer you should give is : Off-page SEO refers to the actions taken outside of your website to improve its search engine rankings. This includes activities such as link building, social media marketing, guest blogging, and other forms of content promotion that can help to increase the visibility and authority of your website on the internet. Off-page SEO is important because search engines consider the number and quality of external links pointing to your website as an indicator of its relevance and authority in relation to the searched keyword.
Question 6: Have you ever worked before in any corporate as an SEO (Internship)?
My Answer: No, I haven't had the opportunity to work as an SEO before, but I have been actively learning about SEO and its best practices. I believe my skills in content creation and social media marketing, coupled with my passion for SEO, would enable me to quickly learn and contribute to the success of your team
My tip is to keep taking online courses related to your field. Nowadays, interviewers often ask about the courses you have taken to gauge your level of motivation and interest. So, take these online courses seriously because a certificate is not just a piece of paper, it represents the knowledge and skills you have acquired, which will help you in your career.
Your Answer: "No, I have not had the opportunity to work as an SEO or complete an internship in the field. However, I have been actively learning about SEO through online platforms such as YouTube, Hubspot Academy, Coursera, and Udemy. I have obtained certificates from these platforms and am eager to apply my knowledge in a professional setting."
After the interview, I received my first job offer and worked there for some time. I learned a lot during that time, and I strongly suggest that students who are interested in SEO take advantage of the free courses offered by wsCube channel SEO Course and the Hubspot Academy's SEO and inbound marketing courses. They are extremely helpful in gaining a strong foundation in SEO and preparing for interviews.
Software Courses you should learn before applying for SEO
The bottom line is that if you want to pursue a career in SEO, it's essential to have a basic understanding of SEO concepts and practices. There are many free resources available, such as the SEO courses provided by wsCube and the Hubspot Academy, that can help you learn more about SEO. When preparing for an SEO job interview, it's important to be confident, concise, and to the point. Be ready to answer questions about yourself, your experience, and your understanding of SEO concepts such as on-page and off-page optimization.
