Well, a visit to Jim Poconos's haunted spots will give you exactly the same feeling as the lyrics. Here are some spooky tales of Pocono’s ghost houses.

 Jim Thorpe inn

Waking up in the middle of the night only to see someone sitting beside the bed, your television automatically turning on, chairs hanging upside down. Scary right? The guests at Jim Thorpe inn actually lived these spine chilling moments. At first, it appeared like a rumour however they were later confirmed real by paranormal detectives. The experts themselves captured unusual moments on their ghost detecting instruments.

A peep into Jim Thorpe Inn’s history 

The inn was once popularly known as White Swan hotel in 1833. The spot was the brainchild of Cornelius Connor. It was built during the booming coal era. However, in the year 1849, the hotel was burnt down to ashes and was rebuilt and renamed the New American hotel. The hotel welcomed many great personalities in the past including President William H, Taft. Buffalo Bill, Thomas Eddison & John D Rockefeller.    


   2) Henryville house

According to the reports, this house is haunted by 9 ghosts- 5 women, 3 men and a child. However, some of the ex house dwellers claim that there is only one ghost and she is a woman. From shaking beds like crazy, footsteps approaching the bedroom to flying ornaments across the room, every kind of paranormal activity has been witnessed by the residents of the building. 

Past of the Henryville house  

The lady ghost was the owner's wife who hung herself at the end of the building. As per the narrator, the owner’s wife was rude and used to make a lot of ruckuses when alive. 

Talking of the old days, Henryville's house was not always haunted. The house was kept unused for a long time and on top of that, a large cemetery is also located nearby which contributed to more eerie occurrences daily. Legend has it that every nook and corner of the cemetery is buried with bodies of native Americans. 


   3) Old Jail museum

The Old Jail Museum is famous for giving goosebumps to its visitors. Whether it is the cold halls, abnormal shadows or children talking to ghosts, you will find every paranormal activity in this creepy yet historical place. For the love of this mysterious place, the Old Jail museum society organises a spooky tour for its visitors. These tours usually take place on Saturdays of October month.

Past of Old Jail museum 

Most haunted places have a dreadful past and so does the Old Jail Museum. It is believed that prisoners were forced to live in dungeons under dreadful conditions. Amongst these, not so lucky souls were a group of 7 people who were collectively called ‘Molly Maguires’ and belonged to a secret organisation of coal miners who were held responsible for terrorism in the coal fields of Virginia and Pennsylvania. You can still see the strange imprints of a prisoner on the wall. It is said that this particular prisoner named “Alec Campbell” claimed his innocence till the last breath of his life.


  4) Buck hill inn

Buck Hill Inn is lying redundant in a secluded property of Buck Hill resort. However, the spot has gained fame after many criminal activities. Apparitions of a native American soldier were witnessed by many visitors and staff members on the hotel property particularly in Room no 354. Apart from these spooky experiences, strange shadows in the bedroom, floating objects, slamming doors and shaking beds at midnight were all observed by most guests and visitors.

History of the Buck Hill Inn

Buck Hill Inn was the brainchild of Samuel Griscom who was the great-nephew of Betsy Ross. The hotel initially opened as a hostel comprising only 20 rooms. However, tourism in the spot gained momentum in the 1960s and hence the inn was converted into a luxurious hotel of 420 rooms. According to spiritualists, the east wing of the hotel overlaps with ley lines which is why the place has become home to evil spirits.


  5) Pocono Indian museum

Poconos Indian museum comes among the top museums of Poconos. However, it is also one of the scariest spots in the town. Visitors not only felt the unknown presence but also saw marks of strange activities. According to the experts, a girl ghost named Eli used to open and close doors and drawers. The voices of opening and closing the doors were heard by people loud and clear.

Located in Bushkill, the Pocono Indian Museum is the best place for you to explore the past of Delaware Indians. Visitors often visit the place to get a glance at old artefacts, tools and weapons. Mal law gave in to his curiosity about American history by opening the Pocono Indian museum in 1976. 


  6) Mount airy Lodge(Room- 7664)

Mount airy lodge is one of the places with a scary past and many paranormal activities. Strange voices and activities are said to be witnessed in the lodge’s dining area and Room 7664. Voices from the dining area are said to be of the owner’s wife who committed suicide in the lodge. Whereas in room 7664, a man killed his wife ruthlessly years back. Since then, the hotel has become an abode of ghosts.

History of the Mount airy lodge

Mount airy lodge came into existence in the initial years of 1890. It was known as the best honeymoon destination with 890 rooms and facilities like indoor and outdoor pools, skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding and 18 hole golf course. However, the resort was closed in the year 2001 and converted into the famous Mount airy casino resort.
