Top 6.5 Jewelry Designs of 2019
This is the Byond pick of what we think are the best jewelry designs that are worth mentioning. We chose these designs based on our opinion of what we thought was creative and beautiful. That is why I'll express that this is a subjective list, and is not in order of best to worst, or of any kind. Let us know if we missed your favorite design of this year, or which one of these you'd love to have! ??
6. David Yurman: Cable Design - You cannot have a best of jewelry designs list without the work of this brilliant couple. David Yurman's latest collection of cable themed designs, seemed to have been inspired by the universal understanding of cables across human culture. From the website: "These sculptural forms run through the whole of human experience". Although, art is subjective, we personally interpret these designs as a more rugged country or industrial design with a jewelers touch. This does represent how open to interpretation this design is by others. Even inspiring the main design elements some of their other work in another collection: Buckle. In our opinion this design reflects the possibility of how diverse jewelry design can be without compromising aesthetics or functionality, and only the opposite remaining beautiful.
5. Piaget: Extremely Piaget - The name alone evokes luxury, and rightfully so. The Extremely Piaget collection is important to us, because it sets out to recreate and capture what this renowned brand represents. And it definitely does this with its unique designs. While not the most innovative, the significance and creativity are difficult to match by some of the most experienced jewelers. There definitely is something pleasant about this collection in having no reoccurring theme tying it together, as most collections do follow a theme. Here we see each piece is unique in its own way, representing a different part of the Piaget legacy.
4. Buccellati: Their Style - Another jewelry brand that had to be on this list, while they are not as well known, that is why we want to feature their prestigious and elegant style. Buccellati jewelry designs bring together an air Italian beauty. Their visibly hand crafted pieces speak of Italian fashion, art, history, architecture, and design innovation. Italy is well known to the world as the host to some of the most beautiful creations; from their sports cars to their romantic cities. Buccellati is absolutely no exception to paying homage to Italian culture. Their jewelry mastery has even given birth to their own unique diamond cut shape (bottom left in the image), aptly named the Buccellati Cut Diamond. Now I know the name Buccellati has been mentioned many times by now, but I think we're exposing our romantic love affair their work here at Byond.
3. Harry Winston: Winston Candy - Moving onto some eye candy and high jewelry. Although, this collection is from the 2018 year. The HW Candy collection continues to offer some of the most colorful work in the most amazing designs. These grand creations remind us of something out of the 50's and 60's. And rightfully so, as HW took inspiration from older designs and gave them a modern, and delicious twist! Definitely not easy to accomplish with jewelry, as different design elements can clash with each other. HW did in an incredible job they also opted to use some amazing colorful gems, which is something we absolutely celebrate here at Byond.
2. MIKIMOTO: Jeux de Rubans - Named after Mikimoto Kōkichi, who had created the first cultured pearls, and established the Mikimoto company. We want to mention the work of Mikimoto, because of their significance in the industry and our respect for their niche designs. Their designs revolve around one main theme: pearls. While their collections may not have the most sparkle or amazing intricate designs in this list. And not to discredit the amazing and beautiful creations offered by Mikimoto. However, the continued tradition of providing beautiful cultured pearls is something we really respect. There is something special about the elegant way they design the jewelry around the pearl.
1. Van Cleef & Arpels: Perlée - Last but not least, we're featuring a traditional collection by one of the world's most renowned jewelry brands. This collection holds considerable significance to the brand, as the bead design is historic to Van Cleef & Arpels. Since 2008 they show it off in a ongoing collection known as Perlée. There is something truly magical about this collection as the pearl like beads encompass the jewelry, softening the light and pleasing the eye. The collection includes one of our favorite unique designs, the secret watch bracelet. A true statement piece that will definitely hold future value. The evident indulgence of color really elevates the designs into a trendy yet luxurious territory. And with a wide variety of designs, there's something for everyone. Highly recommend checking it out, this is one of our most favorite of the year.
1/2. Bonus: Cultured Diamond Collections - For this one, there's more than a handful of companies we could choose from. Which excites us at Byond, because we truly believe in a cultured diamond future! So here's a few companies we wanted to give a shout-out to: Brilliant Earth Lab Diamonds, being familiar with their craftsmanship and push for ethical jewelry makes them one of our top picks for cultured diamonds. Another honorable mention is of course James Allen, a more recent and modern jewelry company, they seem to strive to be on top of things. And with fair pricing and one of the best websites for ring shopping, it would be a crime not to mention them. Ada Diamonds, the industry leader in cultured diamonds should need no introduction. They have been and continue to fight the good fight in helping establish lab diamonds as the standard for jewelry.
That's it for this year's list. We wish you all a Happy New Year, and hope to see some amazing new designs for the coming 2020 year. Comment below what brands you'd like to see gain more exposure! ??
