I am really excited about, first #LinkedIn article. I will show you 5 different ways to learn SharePoint and be an expert in #SharePoint.
Wondering if this is for experienced professionals or #freshers? Both, I have covered, both the points here.
Lets categories in below 4 ways:
- Freshers looking for a #job
- Experienced but no job yet
- Experienced Professionals having little knowledge in SharePoint
- Working in different technologies
- SharePoint experts
If you are in position 5, then you need to teach #SharePoint to others :). It is time for you to let others learn SharePoint.
What for others? You, we need to learn SharePoint.
Now, the question is how to learn SharePoint? But before that what are the things you need to read in SharePoint? Here is a high-level thing you need to cover:
- Office 365 & SharePoint out of box features
- SharePoint Site, List & Libraries
- SharePoint modern experience
- SharePoint web parts
- SharePoint object model (JSOM, CSOM, Rest API, SSOM, etc)
- SharePoint Add-ins or Apps (SharePoint hosted & Provider Hosted)
- SharePoint Search
- PowerShell
- PnP
- Power Apps
- Power Automate (Microsoft flow) & workflow
- SharePoint Framework (SPFx)
- SharePoint On-Premises
A lot more things are there, but this much at least.
How to Learn SharePoint
Whenever you want to learn new #technology, the first question comes to our mind is how to learn? From where we need to start?
Well, let us see what the various options are to learn a new technology especially SharePoint.
Self-learning
This one is my favorite, Self-learning. Today’s world is open, people share a complete tutorial on their web sites for free, you can start easily.
You can easily get FREE PDF’s, small #eBooks to start with. You can even buy books from Amazon that you can read step by step. There are plenty of books available.
Another important thing you should always remember is to do the practice, which is very important. Without practice, it will not be going to be helpful for you in the long run.
You can do self-learning from the below sources:
- Tutorial/Educational web sites
- eBooks (Free/Paid)
- Buy books from Amazon
- Watch Free Videos (YouTube)
- But most important – Practice
Apart from this, you can also join various groups on Facebook or like a few pages where you can ask questions and get answers.
Few pages are:
A few people ask me, do we need a heavy laptop to install SharePoint and start practicing?. The answer is a BIG NO, you just need a browser and you can go for a free Office 365 developer sign up. You will get a free, renewable 90-day Microsoft 365 E5 developer subscription.
Even then sometimes we confuse whether you are going in the right director or not? Are you doing this correctly? Needs answers for this keep reading.
Self-learning always the best.
YouTube
#YouTube one of the most popular contents creator and learning hubs nowadays. You can learn anything and everything in #SharePoint there.
There are various SharePoint tutorial channels, you can subscribe and learn free.
Even Microsoft has the Official Microsoft 365 and the popular PnP community channel, where you can get tons of information or tutorials in SharePoint and other related technologies.
But this will be really confusing for beginners who want to learn SharePoint because you will not get everything well organized.
This helps more if you are clear about what you want to learn.
Professional Training Course
This is one more way, I suggest for serious #learners. You can join or enroll in a SharePoint professional training course.
There are lots of professional #training #courses (paid) are available on the web, some of them are limited access like you can access it for 6 months, 1 Year.
I was giving training for a long time and later I realized and worked on a SharePoint developer training course. Working as a developer for a long time, I felt the importance of concepts from basic to advanced levels.
You can access the SharePoint developer training course for a lifetime, apart from that you can download the PDF, source code files.
Technology is changing day by day, so as #Office365. It forces me to push updates regularly to the training course that will be available to all the users free.
But we will still have doubts, email or call support will always be there.
The reason most of the people opt for it because you will learn from basic to advanced level in an organized manner.
This will be helpful for all the top 4 categories of professionals.
Live Training
Lots of institutions provide SharePoint live training. You can join any live training batch. But you must be very careful about this.
Make sure, you have taken the feedback of the trainer before joining the class. I had students who paid there, disappointed, and then came to me to learn SharePoint. This sometimes really bad.
But one main reason, I do not recommend this, because there is always a time limit and sometimes, they skip things like anything.
And once the training is over, you will not get support from them, whereas if you will enroll for any #SharePoint training course, there will always be at least email or phone support.
Hold on, this is not the only reason not to go for live training.
If you are working professional, then you might not be able to join the classes regularly, as you may be stuck in the work, you may have meetings, client calls, all these.
I had people who started 4-5 classes during a live training batch and then started asking me for the recordings. So thought about it, before joining any live SharePoint training.
Simultaneously while Working with Job
This is another best option to learn any new #technology.
If you are working in SharePoint, or any technologies, want to shift towards SharePoint, then this is the best option.
Learn while you are working.
I have seen people who took the SharePoint project, without much prior knowledge. They put effort, dedication, and succeeded.
Tip: Always keep yourself updated. Check out the new things releasing and start self-reading those things.
