Top 5 Tips for Starting Blogs for SEO

Blogging provides many advantages for increasing your outreach, gaining attention as the industry leader, increasing sales, and it is especially useful for your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts.?

When you use content marketing on your website, it is the most effective tool for all the areas outreach. Blogging is considered the largest tool within content marketing and below are some reasons as to why this activity will help you.?

  • Blogging is simply a series of articles (350 – 1200 words long) that will include the keywords that attract your ideal client and give your reader information that will help them in some way. The keywords are same words your ideal clients are typing into the search engines so they can learn more and they happen to also be how you help people with your products or services. When you have a blog available which can answer their questions, the search engines will match their request in the search bar with your website.?
  • When you use the words that attract your ideal client(s) and the same words match your domain, branding, and images, the search engines’ algorithms will understand you are a legitimate resource and will increase your ranking further up towards the top.?
  • Your search engine “sweet-spot” is to be below the ads and above the fold on page one and the activity of blogging often (at least 2 x a month) will help you to reach this placement.?
  • This position on the search engines is not easy to obtain and retain because you may have thousands (if not millions) of other organizations competing for that same space when they offer the same services. The more competitors you have, the harder it is to maintain the top ranking. However, it is better to work towards then position than to purchase ads because people like to click on organic content.?
  • With frequent activity (at least 2 blogs / month) the algorithms will see your website as active and will increase the legitimacy which will increase the times you are delivered to the person searching for your services.?

Below are some tips for creating a blog strategy for increasing your SEO.

1)?Find a quiet spot and clear your mind.?You have knowledge and years of experience you can provide to others so do not worry. This process is easier with practice. Please do not be fearful of sharing so much that it renders your services useless. That will rarely be the case and even if it does, that person was not someone you could truly help anyway. The benefits of sharing knowledge far outweigh the negatives. You will be seen as the knowledge expert in your field and that will attract your ideal clients.

2)?Organize your thoughts.?List 12 – 24 knowledge topics that will grab the attention of your ideal client. Create a list of what keeps your potential clients up at night. How do your services help people solve challenges? How do your clients feel after you help them? These phrases are what you turn into blog headlines because these words will grab the attention of your ideal client and they will want to read more.?

Not sure where to start - how about the beginning? Below is an example from a chiropractor who is starting his blog.?

  • ?A chiropractor would start with explaining about the nervous system and how it connects to all organs of your body.?
  • ?The chiropractors second knowledge topic could be focused on the challenges the organs face if your spine is not aligned.?
  • ?The third article of knowledge could be about common causes in which a spine can become misaligned.?
  • ?The fourth topic could start to dive into ways to correct the challenge(s).?
  • ?Another article will explain be the difference between medical doctors and chiropractors.?
  • ?The history of chiropractic care would be a great blog article.?
  • ?Some chiropractors have the belief of incorporating a healthy mind, body, and spirit into their practice so this would be a unique way to set them apart from their competitors. This type of content is what this person’s ideal client will be searching and hoping to find.?

3) Ad?content?to?your?thoughts above.?Pretend you are telling a friend about each topic above. Simply tell the reader about that topic and do not let fear stop your work. Perfection is the enemy of progression. Share your thoughts in 350 – 1200 words about each topic.?Here is a great article?on writing the blog.

4)?Add an image that catches your ideal clients' eye. Create or chose something that will entice them to read more or demonstrate how they will feel once you have helped them. Often the headline of your blog is a perfect set of words, and you pair that with a human face or an object that resonates with your ideal client.?

5) Adding hyperlinks?to reputable organizations or to other parts of your website will greatly enhance your SEO.?A hyperlink is a word or a set of words which are connected to another page on the internet.?You can connect the reader to another section of your website for further reading on that specific topic. This provides more depth on a subject and also keeps the reader on your website.?Another hyperlink can take the reader to someone else's website. Leaving your site is not typically optimal but if the link is connected to another reputable website, it can greatly enhance your SEO.?So, in that case, a visitor leaving your website could be worth the trade-off.?When you (and your website) are connected with a reputable website, it provides authority to you which will move your website further up on the search engines. Doing this several times with other SEO tactics and you will be riding high on the great wave of algorithms.?
