As I like to do at the start of each year, I have compiled a top 5 of trends I expect to be the most important ones for the upcoming year. Listed them below with some background on each one. Let me know what you think!
To make it even more exciting, I have hand picked some of the most important trends expected to be seen in 2020:
- Digital Twins: I find this one extremely interesting. A digital twin is a digital copy of a physical product. The applications for an accurate digital twin are endless. Just imagine applying this technology into a self-learning platform so consolidation can be automated in order to work faster and more (cost) efficient.
- Warehouse Robotics: I have seen videos in 2019 of robotic warehousing racks that could move and adapt in accordance to space needed, fed with information directly from the WMS. I really expect this to have a big impact this year.
- Safety in Logistics: With more digital influences in the industry, your business also becomes more visible and almost every action is recorded 'black on white', I expect companies to start investing more concrete safety measures and policies.
- Analytics and AI: Working for a company which invests heavily in this, I can safely say that this one will be big in 2020 as well. In C-View, our Visibility platform, we even have a predictive element which warns you before your shipments are delayed, so we can take preventive measures against a delay.
- Environmental tracking: Keeping track of the environmental implications of your business will become more and more important this year. I have mentioned this in earlier posts, but just look at the implication of the sulphur cap for Ocean Carriers, or the Nitrogen cap in The Netherlands. More to come and definitely something we'll have to brace for.
