Top 5 states in India for Solar Installations

In recent years, India has significantly increased its installed solar capacity, with several states demonstrating exceptional commitment and growth. According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India’s installed solar capacity reached to about 63 GW by January 2023. ?

As a leading provider of total solar energy solutions, Navitas Solar believes that India is making progress towards the goal that is announced in its Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy at the United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties (COP27) last November in Egypt. The Indian strategy outlines how the country plans transition to go away from fossil fuels by 2070 to achieve net-zero emissions. This strategy places a strong emphasis on diversifying India's energy sources, particularly using solar energy.

The International Energy Agency (IEA is an energy organization that provides analysis, data, and policy advice) predicts that India's solar push will have an impact on the global spread of renewables. The data is taken from CEA.

The progress made by India's top five states toward solar installations is encouraging.

As of January 2023, the following were the top five states.

1.?????Rajasthan: Cumulative Solar installation as 16353.07 MW

With a total installation of 13403.27 MW on Ground Mount Solar, 835.00 MW of Rooftop Solar, 1579.00 of Hybrid Solar, and 535.80 MW Off-grid Solar. The state has the largest solar park in the world with 2245 MW of installed capacity. The state government encourages solar parks, and hybrid solar projects at a larger scale.

?

2.?????Gujarat: Cumulative Solar installation as 8747.42 MW

With 6434.44 MW of Ground Mount Solar, 2261.16 MW of Rooftop Solar, 51.82 MW of Off grid Solar, Gujarat has the highest rooftop solar installations in the country. In a significant move, the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has amended the Net Metering Rooftop Solar PV Grid Interactive Systems Regulations 2016. This, has allowed net metering for solar rooftop systems with capacities ranging from 1 kW to 1 MW. Rooftop solar systems with capacities ranging from 10 kW to 1 MW are also eligible for gross metering.

?

3.?????Karnataka: Cumulative Solar installation as 8018.60 MW

With a total installation of 7572.20 MW of Ground Mount Solar, 416.09 MW of Rooftop Solar, and 30.31 MW of Off grid Solar, Karnataka ranks third in the list. The Karnataka State government is implementing various policies to aggressively increase solar installations.

?

4.?????Tamilnadu : Cumulative Solar installation as 6497.32 MW

With a total installation of 6061.31 of Ground Mount Solar, 373.73 MW of Rooftop Solar, and 62.28 MW of Off grid Solar, Tamilnadu ranks fourth in the list. Tamilnadu State government is aggressive in implementing different policies to encourage installations of solar. ?

5.?????Telangana: Cumulative Solar installation as 4657.18 MW

With a total installation of 4360.49 MW of Ground Mount Solar, 287.98 MW of Rooftop Solar, and 8.71 MW of Off grid Solar, Telangana ranks fifth in the list. Telangana State government is implementing various policies to aggressively increase solar installations.

We can confidently state that India's progress with solar power can be attributed to a combination of policy interventions, favorable market conditions, and the country's approximately 300 sunny days per year - ideal conditions for solar energy growth. Not surprisingly, India is currently one of the most profitable solar energy markets, attracting significant private investment.

For your future fixed tilt Solar PV (rooftop / ground mounted) project, you can use our application at www.sueng-tech.com for system design (e.g. no. of PV modules required, no. of inverters required, optimum configuration of array (in terms of no. of modules to be connected in series & parallel), optimum AC : DC ratio, energy yield monthwise & yearwise, performance ratio etc. and complete financial modelling of the project including many more parameters. A sample output of system design and financial modelling is available in our "Home" page of the web-site for your reference. Please register, login and you are there to use (currently the application is free to use for all). The application is highly user friendly and guides the user in every step during filling the input form. We are also available round the clock to resolve any issue faced by our users.
