1. FTC Moves

Key Points:

  • The proposed rules would impact deals worth $111.4 million or more.
  • The FTC is working with the Justice Department to revamp the rules and crack down on illegal mergers -- it’s part of the first overhaul of 1976 law in 45 years.
  • The FTC will take comments on the proposed changes for 60 days and the new rules won’t go into effect until the FTC and Justice Department file a final version of the revised act, which is expected to take several months to complete.

2. Pros and Cons of ChatGPT

  • Investor Esther Dyson shared some of her sage perspective on ChatGPT and other aspects of the AI surge as part of a panel hosted this week by the Disruptive Technologists in NYC meetup group at Microsoft Times Square.
  • Dyson described ChatGPT as something of a double-edged sword that, for the moment, can make it easier to instigate harm.?
  • Some of the concerns about AI might have been taken in stride if regulators were better prepared to understand the technology.?

3. Full Scope of the MOVEit Breach

  • On May 31, software company Progress?discovered a vulnerability?(CVE-2023-34362) in its MOVEit Transfer and MOVEit Cloud file transfer tools. Payroll provider?Zellis was a victim of the breach, as well as some of its customers, including pharmacy chain Boots, broadcaster BBC, airline British Airways, and airline Aer Lingus.
  • The Clop Ransomware Gang has been linked to the MOVEit attack. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation released an?advisory?to address the group’s exploitation of the MOVEit vulnerability.
  • Headlines declaring the latest victims from the MOVEIt breach are popping up like weeds. The breach has swept through multiple industries. It has impacted Shell,?Johns Hopkins University, Schneider Electric, Siemens Energy, and many more. CNN reported that?several federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, are among those impacted by the breach.

4. Sustainability Agenda(s)
