1. Data Center News Roundup

Story by? James Walker

Key Points:

2. Retrofit Facts to Consider

Story by?Chris Tozzi

Key Points:

  • Retrofitting could entail replacing major systems, like HVAC and power infrastructure, so that your data center operates more reliably and cost-effectively. Retrofits could also involve redesigning the layout of a data center to improve airflow or fit more server racks into the facility.
  • The main advantage of retrofitting – as opposed to replacing a data center with a new one – is that retrofitting allows you to keep using an existing facility. You don't have to purchase new real estate and build a new data center, which can cost millions of dollars and take many months.
  • When you approach a data center retrofit with a step-by-step plan, you minimize the risk of what can be a complex, time-consuming process.

3. 2023 Cloud Trends

Story by Sean M. Kerner

Key Points:

  • According to the report, the AI boom, multicloud complexity, and digital sovereignty are major forces impacting the cloud in 2023. Enterprises are seeking to rapidly adopt powerful technologies such as AI but also need to rein in costs and manage growing infrastructure complexity.
  • The trends paint a picture of an increasingly complex cloud landscape as major technology shifts occur around artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty regulations, and specialized industry solutions.
  • Click the story above to discover the 10 top cloud trends identified by Forrester researchers.

4. The Future of Cloud & Cybersecurity

Story by? Stephen Lawton

Key Points:

  • In this video, Stephen Lawton discusses various trends and challenges in cloud computing and cybersecurity, highlighting the growth in cloud spending, concerns about data security, the rise of cloud-native startups, and issues related to AI and machine learning.
  • It also addresses the importance of cloud sovereignty, the need for secure backups and encryption, and the evolving landscape of cyber insurance requirements and security controls for both on-premises and cloud environments.

5. Data Center Revenue Outlook

Story by? Dennis J Hahn (Eng. / MBA)

Key Points:

  • According to the Omdia Data Center?storage tracker, total revenue for data center?storage external systems decreased 14.2% year-over-year (YoY) to $13.6 billion and quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) increased 1.8% in the second quarter of 2023 (2Q23), offering a sequential boost but falling short of the usual QoQ seasonality increase.
  • The late 2022 growth downturn we are still in seems to have been brought on by a number of economic factors, including global economic headwinds, cautious storage deployment to control costs, and the need to exhaust equipment stocks that had been built up to stabilize supply chains.
  • Even though it has matured, the market for cloud storage services is still anticipated to thrive, but growth will inevitably slowdown from its previously high growth stages.

"DevSecOps Essentials that Enable Efficient Security"

DevOps will have the greatest impact on the IT organization now and in the next ten years.

IT leaders look to the Dev team to streamline, accelerate, and upskill the workforce in the face of growing demands, complexities, and threats from outside the organization. Meanwhile, the C-Suite is hoping DevOps can figure out a way to reduce or remove IT costs while distributing more resilience for the organizational infrastructure. It feels a bit like a game of tug of war.

Topics Include:

  • The implications for products, platforms, and upcoming agile DevOps initiatives
  • Debating the realities and pitfalls of No Ops and low code/no code
  • The hidden dangers that can arise when inclusivity and accessibility are omitted from dev processes
