Top 5 must-do’s for every CMO in 2019

As a Chief Marketing Officer, you have to stay updated with every change in the online market strategies –which, let’s face it, change a lot every year-.

For this reason –And because it is the first quarter of 2019-, we decided to raise an article with the Top 5 must-do’s for every CMO in 2019.

1. Get the CEO to be Part of the Strategy!

Fraud is an ugly word, and it sounds a lot lately. For this reason a more social approach is turning out to be an advantage in the battlefront of online marketing –In other words, people want to know who is behind a product or service that they support.

Getting the CEO or administrative faces of the company involved in social media –through live videos, Webinars & Article updates for example- is a digital marketing strategy that grows on people and is gaining ground at this moment. Companies like Ramco Systems , Tata son's Ltd and many others do this effectively.

2. Get more involved with Voice Search Technology

“The Future is NOW” Voice Search Services, like Alexa and Google home are expanding at a massive level among users and it seems to be the next step of technology’s evolution in regards of how we look for information.

In this regard, you will find that brands such as Purina and Johnnie Walker are already taking advantage of this new technology.

But, why go for Voice Search now?

Well, to begin with, this is an increasing market –Like internet at late 90’s and early 2000’s-. More than 35 million of US citizens used a voice search app at least once a month during 2017 and the number of user’s just keeps growing.

For the same reason, your brand can actually take advantage and get the benefit of pioneering voice search marketing in your brand’s field of work!

3. Brand with a purpose

If you didn’t play the “socially responsible brand” card just yet, you may want to do it as soon as possible.

Believe it or not, there are studies that suggest that people prefer to put their money in and trust in companies that have some sort of social responsibility programs.

On the other hand, there are several successful campaigns out there that promote brands in a more human way. Take a look at some of the options:

·        You could just go green:

Thinking about the environment has worked really well for companies like Google, but it also needs some inside commitment. In this regard, you should also use your resources in the best way possible to reduce your company’s impact on the environment as well as supporting green campaigns.

·        We are the children

Beneficial campaigns are not “celebrities only”, brands like Coca-Cola and Palmolive work worldwide bringing opportunities to children in precarious situations.

But this isn’t a one-way end, if your project isn’t big enough to create foster homes or schools in a 3rd world country, you can benefit by helping institutions near your demographic targets.

·        Purchase = Donation

Have you ever walked into a McDonald's and been asked to donate the spare change? Those few cents that you could stick in your pocket can sum up to make a difference, right?

Other companies like Warby, Parker cut the spare change and create campaigns in which you are directly contributing when you make a purchase.

This is an amazing strategy! It works like a two-way road, people will feel better when purchasing our products because they are helping, and it also differentiates you from the competition because the price gap between your products and theirs now has a moral value.

·        Make the user feel helpful

Regardless of the line of social responsibility that you take, make sure that your customers and users feel helpful when choosing you. This is how you create the biggest impact and get benefits for your brand.

4. Shortest video ads

Another amazing trend lurking around the last quarter of 2018 was the spamming 15-second videos on Instagram and social media in general.

Short video ads –Both 6-second and 15-second formats- are booming because they get just the right attention span from the non-seeking costumer.

Considering the attention span of the millennial user’s reducing every year, the YouTube Pre-roll ads that last just for 6 seconds is a huge opportunity to have a better recall value among the users instead of just skipping the ads.

This way, campaigns like Airbnb are getting benefits from what used to be hard to do directly online… Advertising.

Nevertheless, mastering the art of setting really short video ads will grant you more complete views –And this way more people will know about your actual brand.

Note – Telling a story & creating a bond in 15 or 6 seconds is hard, but is also possible and more people listen to 15 or 6 second videos than to full 60-second ads.

5. Take them out of the web!

Talking about getting involved, here is a bonus track.

Several brands in the US and Europe –Nike House of Innovation in NY city is a great example of this- are creating actual social clubs!

Sure, this sounds expensive, but it allows “fans” to get involved with people who enjoy the same things and allows you to pursue a better connection with them. –You can also make this a profitable opportunity; they are private clubs after all-.

Many brands have also started using IOT in their Digital marketing. Be creative and leverage this powerful tool to maximize your branded experiences and to increase consumer engagement and response.

Start 2019 with the best attitude!

There is a lot going on in the marketing niche all the time and changes like new technologies and marketing trends can be the perfect opportunity to grow up your business and start competing with the big firms.

Take advantage of the throwaway prices of social media ads in 2019, while in 2020 that might become more expensive.

So, take your best attitude, get a nice digital marketing strategy designed and make sure to fulfill all your goals this 2019 boosting every project that falls in your hands. Make sure to evaluate your new projects very well and have a happy new year 2019!!
