With the increasing demand for recruiters in the market, there is a clear buzz around wondering how to be a good recruiter when you have just started out? Even though there is no magic formula to becoming a successful recruiter, a few tips could certainly help.
If you are like me, trial & error is going to be the best method to help you find great talent and also be able to make their placement. While I love to talk about what value I bring to the table and what all projects I enjoy working on the most, I have a fair share of failures and setbacks.
Here are my top 5 mistakes as a novice recruiter:
? Landed money to a job seeker to pay for the commute, just to find out that they never showed up and ghosted me altogether.
? Shared the feedback right after the interview that the candidate has not been selected. This has burst many into anger and resentment.
? Helped the candidates to edit and update their resumes, just to find out that they didn't take the job and never valued my effort and energy spent for them.

? I spread myself too thin to accommodate candidate timings who were not a good fit and were not cooperative.
? Gave the candidates too many chances if they want to reschedule the interviews. Again, ignored a sure-shot sign that they were not enough involved in the process.
The list goes on and you have got the idea.
I had a bleeding heart for every job applicant when I was a newbie in this country. My trust and goodwill for them have been betrayed numerous times for good.
The right candidate for the right opportunity should work out organically. I do not believe in pressuring or pushing someone to do something they may not want to. Instead, I want them to take an informed decision.
And, these are my two cents for a happy and successful recruiting life.
