Networking and building relationships on LinkedIn are one of the most common features of the platform.
But, if you’re just starting out, networking on LinkedIn can be?confusing??and overwhelming??.
How do you find new people to connect with? How do you communicate without being annoying? What do you write in your connection request or follow-ups to get people to reply?
These are all valid questions you might have as a beginner (even I am) and we’ll explore them in-depth below.
1. Personalize connection requests
Sending a connection request to a person is the most obvious way to start connecting. But before you send a request, make sure to research the person and personalize the note. Generic content will not get you the kind of results you are looking for, and sending too many requests may also get your profile barred. So instead of going on sending connection requests, engage the right way.
2. Join LinkedIn groups??(preferably in your niche)
LinkedIn groups?are another popular networking tactic.
Why’s that?
LinkedIn groups allow you to reach a targeted audience of industry professionals and establish relationships??with people by having something in common (the group, same niche, etc.).
All you have to do is type in keywords related to your industry and you’ll find loads of LinkedIn groups to choose from.
Though, consider narrowing down your search even more and being as specific as possible if you want to stand out in a group with many members.

Simply go to?“My Network”?and scroll down until you see the “people you may know” section.
Here, you’ll find:
This is a great?‘quality over quantity’?approach as you’re more likely to find relevant people worth networking with from your niche here.
4. Create Content?Regularly (preferably in your niche)
Actively liking, commenting, and showing love to your LinkedIn connections is a great way to grow your network—but why stop there??
If you have experiences and educational or informational content yourself, you can publish it to boost your profile’s credibility and present yourself as an expert in your industry.?
Follow these tips when writing content for LinkedIn:
5. Engage with existing connections??
Engaging with?current connections?puts your profile directly in front of their networks, and all it takes is a “like” or “comment” on their posts. A simple “Great thoughts” or “Thanks for sharing” can help expand your reach and, quite honestly, it’s the considerate thing to do when someone’s thoughts or content resonate with you.
Commenting?with your personal insights or questions can increase engagement and exposure even more. And engagement adds depth and meaning, helping transform connections into?relationships??.
