Top 5 Hints to Make the Most of Your Digital Marketing Internship
?? Hello everyone! This is Mathushika, currently working as a Trainee Project Manager at Prime One Global. I started my journey with Prime One in the month of March 2021. Let me tell you how I kick-started my career at Prime One.
In the starting days, I spent my time learning about Prime One culture, getting to know my colleagues, and adapting to the way of working at Prime One Global. With my initial tasks, I got hands-on experience on a small digital marketing project, which led me to gain an idea of the digital marketing strategies and frameworks the company is using. As a person with no prior experience in digital marketing, this was a great launching point for me. Even though it was challenging, I was able to learn so much within a limited time frame thanks to my team leads and mentors. Thanks to the support system and the friendly working culture at Prime One Global, which contributed to my learning process at Prime One as a digital marketing intern and helped me to become a Trainee Project Manager.
So, today, with my own experience, I am going to share some hints for newbies to maximize their digital marketing internships. Let me tell you, how can you get the most from an internship? And how can you bridge the gap between being an intern and becoming a pro Digital Marketer?
1. Smartly Play Your Part ??
It is crucial to understand that, even if there is a gap between interns and experienced staff, no one expects you to remain silent. Your most powerful weapon is your voice. Having a creative voice is a great approach to showing everyone what you're capable of. Remember, if you accept that you are "just an intern," you will be treated as such. However, if you begin to consider yourself as a member of the team, you will be treated as a team member. This involves actively seeking work because most internships will gradually get more intense for individuals who actively pursue work.
"Not all companies have an organized internship training program or welcoming receptions for new interns, so, always be ready to roll up your sleeves and find opportunities to contribute."
2. Set Clear Goals ?
If your goal is to turn the internship into a full-time paying job, that goal can be vague and not targeted. Therefore, when taking a digital marketing internship, it's important to define what your internship progress looks like. To that end, set your weekly goals. I would suggest writing down your goals and sharing them with your manager/teammates. Accountability is essential, so writing down your goals makes them 'real,' and increases the likelihood that you'll achieve them.
3. Ask Questions and Be Ready to Find Answers ??
It's important to remember that no one expects you to have all the answers. There is an expectation that you will have certain knowledge gaps, so you are encouraged to ask questions and fill those gaps. But a lot of the time, you'll have to figure out the answers for yourself. However, the best interns are those who ask questions since it demonstrates that they are interested, passionate, and eager to learn.
4. Listen to Constructive Feedback ??
Unlike full-time paid employment, an internship is a learning opportunity, therefore take advantage of it. Seek out and learn from your superiors or coworkers who have more knowledge than you. Request and consider their feedback on your effort. Some of the feedback may be hurtful but use its constructive nature to improve and be recognized as working to improve. Feedback can also help you identify your strengths and weaknesses so you may work on them before you leave.
5. Practice the Little Things in The Company ??
Even as an intern, you are required to meet the same standards as the rest of the staff. This means that you should exhibit the same time management, attire, and professional behaviour as the company's finest staff. "Be conscious of how you show yourself to coworkers and your employer. What is the appropriate workplace attire? What is proper email etiquette for the person to whom you are writing? Who is the best person to talk to if you have a worry or an issue that you are unsure how to handle? And don't forget the fundamentals of good manners: be on time, say thank you, follow up, and follow through."
?? Wrapping Up
Working as an intern can be a challenging endeavour, especially in fast-paced industries such as digital marketing. However, internships can be converted into full-time positions by establishing yourself as a valuable team member. This entails becoming acquainted with the company's culture, self-evaluation, and a willingness to learn. being part of the team, asking questions, and listening to feedback.
