Top 5 Geo Week Stories - June 2023
Perhaps it is the weather here in New England, but I feel like this June was one of the quickest yet. In our top stories this month, there's a few themes, including some looks into artificial intelligence applications, and reflections on the use of digital twins.

Too many decision points can burden the user. You input parameters and presets to govern the quality you require, then when the process needs your expert judgment, the system should be smart enough to prompt you. You need to be involved with the system design from the start and understand its strengths and weaknesses to really use it properly.
While several companies have been experimenting with more natural language queries within their software, this appears to be one of the first in the 3D space to combine the language models that can interpret requests with the highly-advanced understanding of assets and space required to make the changes a user asks for.?

The ability to do all of this with just an iPhone was a crucial piece of Overlay’s foundation. Morace acknowledges that scanning with these mobile devices certainly don’t solve every issue and there are still plenty of projects that require high-end laser scanners, but for many of their users working on water utilities, projects are small enough to take advantage of simpler technology, to say nothing of the accessibility (or lack thereof) of more traditional devices.
One of Cesium’s core philosophies,?backed up with things like their Cesium Ecosystem Grants, is the idea of openness and standards, making the 3D geospatial ecosystem as collaborative and interoperable as possible. So it’s no surprise they have worked closely with the Open Geospatial Consortium, whose mission is to provide key standards throughout the geospatial community.
