Amid the #JetAirways crisis & numerous articles about the Future of its 23,000 employees I decided to pen down this article
With 15 years of work experience behind me & being a #SerialJobPreneur; Defined as people who change jobs at regular intervals, this article is about Top 5 FREE & SIMPLE STEPS that each salaried employee should take at all times in case they need to sail through a Job Loss
1. The 6 month expenses rule – If you need Rs. 100 to survive each month, then have a separate bank account where Rs. 600 is kept at all times. You could park this money in a liquid fund with a Mutual Fund ELSE park it with a Bank like YesBank or KotakBank where even liquid cash generates a return of 6%+. This 6 month cushion shall allow you to hunt for your next job with a relaxed mind #YesBank #KotakBank #LiquidFund #MutualFund
2. Specialization horizontal and vertical – While you go about your usual tasks at work ensure that you are working towards learning new skills which are either horizontal or vertical with your area of specialization (Go broad OR go deep) #CareerSkills #KeepLearning
3. Chuck Plastic Money – The moment the pink slips arrives and you hand in your laptop and desk keys to the company make sure you chuck plastic money. There is no bigger trap than plastic money especially for those who have faced a job loss #CreditCard #PlasticMoney #DebtTrap
4. Exercise – Unlike a few enthusiastic and unrealistic authors who are asking those who lost their jobs to indulge in #WanderLust around the world, I suggest a simple remedy ‘Exercise’. A basic brisk 30 min walk 5 times a week is enough with some basic Yoga. Yoga shall allow you to build focus, stay calm and concentrate. Do Pranayama https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EH4D_DAvqc #Patanjali #BabaRamdev
5. Network – I have often seen that employees are so busy with their tasks that they do not network. Go beyond your colleagues, your team and your organisation. Connect with people who have a role similar to yours in other companies, attend networking events, build the right connections via a professional platform like LinkedIn. Invest in a Premium LinkedIn account and keep it updated at all times #Networking #LinkedIn #LinkedInPremium
