Top 5 Engineering Podcasts

Format: I'll explain "my take," or my opinion, and then I'll list the podcast's blub. Let me know in the comments if you agree with my list and if there are any other podcasts who you think should've made the list.

1) BEING AN ENGINEER

My take: I couldn’t find a podcast that encompassed the optimal balance between technical skills, self-development, and soft skills, so we(team Pipeline) made one.

Being an engineer is a wonderful gift. This podcast creates a forum for engineers and those we work with to share and learn about how others solve the problems you face each day, and about the delightful idiosyncrasies that make our breed unique.

Pipeline Design & Engineering partners with medical device engineering teams who need turnkey equipment such as cycle test machines, custom test fixtures, or automation equipment but don’t have the bandwidth or resources internally to develop that equipment. You can find us on the web at www.testfixturedesign.com and www.designtheproduct.com

2) BORN TO DESIGN

My take: A mechanical design-oriented podcast, which is my focus. I wish they could be a little more technical.

Born to Design takes you inside the most fascinating stories coming out of the design and manufacturing world. The surprising backstories of amazing creators. Harrowing near-failures that became overnight successes. Uplifting examples of the many ways our community is changing the world for the better. Presented by SOLIDWORKS, Born to Design is a podcast for dreamers, designers, and creators of all kinds.

3) THE ENGINEERING COMMONS PODCAST

My take: You’ll have to browse through their 100 episodes to find one that applies to your particular niche interest. But when you find it, it’s valuable.

Join engineers Adam, Brian, Carmen and Jeff as they discuss issues of importance to today's engineering professional. Guest engineers frequently provide insights based on their real-life experiences.

4) INVENTORS HELPING INVENTORS

My take: I like to invent, that’s why I chose to be an engineer. If you like to invent, this will also be a good fit for you.

They interview successful inventors and ask them the questions you want to know. You'll learn the tools, tips, and tactics expert inventors use to achieve success - so you can get your invention out of the tank and into the bank!

5) SOFT SKILLS ENGINEERING

My take: Although soft skills is one of my strengths after founding three companies, I still sporadically like to brush up on my soft skills by listening to one of these podcasts.

It takes more than great code to be a great engineer. Soft Skills Engineering is a weekly advice podcast for software developers about the non-technical stuff that goes into being a great software developer.
