With all of the advancements in technology, there are a few key networking tips that remain as timeless and relevant as always. These are the top 5 tips that I've received over the years and still consider to be the cornerstone in my relationships with industry colleagues and friends even after 36 years of seasoned experience.
- Just add value to your network without expectations. Your value will be recognized by those who can appreciate it and thats who you want to build with.
- Be patient and enjoy the process of planting the seeds that will grow your network. It takes time. Rather than be in a hurry, enjoy getting to know people.
- Be consistent in your outreach and your presence. It builds trust and lets your network know that they are a priority.
- Create the habit of expressing appreciation, even in the simplest form of a "Thank you" note. Taking the time to let someone know they and/or their efforts are sincerely appreciated will make all the difference.
- Start building and nurturing your network as early as possible and never stop. Relationships are our greatest teachers and you'll be glad you did it.
There is nothing overly sophisticated about these tips, which is often why they can easily be overlooked or forgotten. They are simple, meaningful, golden nuggets that have stood the test of time.
