When life comes to a screeching economic halt, what do most people do? With all this extra time on our hands, we're finally not so busy we can actually think. We can make the time to consider our lives, our direction and what’s truly important to us.
Often a busy life leaves no room to reflect and ponder what we want most. Sadly though, that’s not what most people are doing as they stay at home during this Covid 19 shutdown.
Perfect Opportunity
This is a perfect opportunity to create new habits and become stronger, smarter and better at anything you wish!
If you never had time to work out, now could be the time to form a habit of your new lifestyle. Don’t cook much? Use this time to discover how you can make easy and healthy meals. What would happen to your life if you worked on improving your most important relationships? Remember, you can develop a new habit in as little as 21 days. This shutdown will most likely last at least that long.
Here’s the challenge. As of this writing, nobody knows when (if ever) the economy will get back to “normal”. It may never return to the same robust time we had as recently as February 2020.
Regardless of whether it’s a month, 2 months or several months before a rebound can get going, you and I can use this valuable time doing things that matter and are often neglected in our hurried day-to-day lives.
Before I share the Top 5 Actions you can take to make 2020 better, I want to share the stats on what MOST people are doing during this shutdown.
Here's what NOT to do!
5 Most Common Activities
1) Overeating – It’s easy to be in constant snack mode
2) Staying Sedentary – Finally an excuse to do nothing.
3) Being Fearful & Stressed – This kills your Immune system.
4) Bing Watching TV – Netflix shares shot up 8.4%
5) Drinking – Alcohol consumption is up 55%
Imagine what you could do, if you had nowhere to go?
(that’s actually the case for many of us)
You could dream, plan, set goals, study or learn a new skill.
You could do many things that will actually improve the quality of your life.
Here are my 5 Top Actions you can take during the shutdown that can bring future positive results to your life.
#1 Acquire or Hone a Critical Skill
What’s the one skill that, If you honed it, would give you the most fuel to accelerate your life or career after this shutdown is over? It may be learning a computer program you’ve always wanted to know. You could improve your Communication or Career skills.
#2 Learn Something New
Whether it’s for career or just life in general, gain knowledge, get greater understanding about something that interests you and can make life better in your future. It can be about Health, (boosting your immune systems helps you safeguard against viruses) a Hobby, Career Advice, Relationship Tips, Planting a Garden, whatever.
Learning new things helps you to be more empowered, capable and positive.
#3 Commit to Being Healthier
After life gets going again, plan to be more proactive about your health and that of everyone around you. Stay home if you’re sick. Disinfect doorknobs. Clean surfaces frequently. The most infectious time for colds is the first 2-4 days of showing symptoms.
Consider Start Working Out: Nothing boosts mood like movement. It triggers hormones that make us feel better and can increase our energy level. Exercise enhances self-esteem, diminishes pain and triggers positive feelings.
#4 Plan and Prepare amazing healthy meals
Many people ate tons of fast food. That’s not good for your health. This is a great time to plan and prepare healthy and delicious home-cooked meals.
#5 Create a Career Plan
Most people’s careers fall short of their aim not by lack of desire, but by lack of a roadmap. Only 3% of people have clear, written goals and an action plan to accomplish them. This is a great time to work on your plan. It can be simple. Ask yourself, What do I want? By When? Why do I want it? What actions would it take to make the outcome inevitable?
