It's that time of year again, the time that you swear off cookies and cake. No more pizza, donuts, and fast food for you. So, you head to the supermarket to fill your basket with broccoli, carrot sticks, and celery. You're determined to eat better this year and lose weight.
If you are like most people, this all-or-nothing idea lasts about two weeks. For most of us, after two days, we are sneaking cookies between carrot sticks.
You're not alone in this struggle, and I want to help you by pointing out the 4 BIG mistakes pretty much everyone makes when trying to lose weight.
1.???Eating too few calories. It is true that to lose weight you need to burn more than you eat.?Calories in, calories out. There are people who tell you this isn't important, but I hate to break it to you. It Is! That said, too often I see clients who cut their calories too low, which can be harmful if you go too low for too long. Also, you lose your willpower when you are hungry! Weight loss is not about willpower. It is about strategy!
2.???Not eating enough starchy carbs. My Keto and Paleo friends are having a coronary by reading that statement, but starchy carbs like sweet potatoes, brown rice, and beans are full of nutrients and fiber that fill you up and is great for digestion and, eh-hem, elimination.

3.???Following a DIET. (You know, the first three letters, spell die.) I don’t know about you, but that doesn't sound appealing. You're trying to lose weight, not kill yourself. Which is very different from killing it when you are on a healthy path to weight loss. Besides, diets have too many rules and restrictions.?When you restrict food groups, you restrict the nutrition they come with. Besides, as soon as you believe you can't have something, you crave it. Chocolate anyone?
4.????Exercising to lose weight. I prefer to use the word movement, which is essential for life. Your body needs to move, it helps your heart tick in time and keeps your bones strong and muscles limber. It's also amazing for your mental state and is a great antidepressant. However, you cannot out exercise a bad diet.? First, you would need to exercise a lot. A-LOT! When you do that, your body freaks out, sending your cortisol levels through the roof. What happens, then? Your body does the exact opposite of what you want. Your body holds on to excess weight instead of releasing it. You've basically worked out and sweated for nothing.
Rather than falling into one or more of these weight loss traps, doesn't it make sense to go about losing weight in a sustainable way that is unique to you and your goals? To reach your goals, you need a plan, a road map. Healthy Living, Happy Life provides you with the map, the guidance, support, and accountability you need to get where you want to be.
Stop yo-yo dieting. Stop spending hours in the gym.
Start on your path to finding the sustainable, healthy, happy lifestyle that works for you. Lose weight, get better sleep, have more energy, get organized, stress less, and enjoy life.
