Top 3 Ways OEE Quality Can Be Improved
I talk about OEE more than just about any other subject. Manufacturers that understand the benefits of lean concepts and continuous improvement philosophies, know how impactful properly calculating and measuring OEE can be.
Today, I’m going to highlight the top 3 ways that manufacturers can improve OEE quality. As you may remember, there are essentially 3 pillars to OEE: throughput, downtime, and quality. Each is almost inseparable from the others, but if we hone in on one at a time, we can uncover opportunities for real shop floor waste elimination. This gives us a more granular way looking at problems and thinking of solutions.

7 年Good article. Using Statistical Process Control (SPC) is essential to ensuring quality. If your process is characterized, and limits are properly set, SPC will give you immediate indication when your process has shifted. Immediate action can be taken to ensure a process shift does not create increased scrap. A leading indicator rather than a lagging indicator I would also look at scrap by equipment. Even the same types of machines perform differently. Variability is introduced by consumable life, parts wear, adjustment differences, etc. If products with different specifications are ran, then capability is a better indicator than yield as one machine can be performing better, but have lower yield due to tighter customer specs on a given product.
