Top 3 Things I Looked for in a New Job

At the start of my job search this winter, I made a list of the qualities I wanted in a new role and new company. Ranging from leadership, diversity and innovation to benefits, culture and even commute, I ranked each one to hone in on what was/is most important to me, my future, my family and my happiness.

The synthesis of my criteria highlighted the importance of three things:

Purpose. Product. People.

Purpose: I looked for a company with a very clear, positive purpose where I would feel good about my conversations and therefore the relationships I would develop with clients, the outcomes, and a company mission, vision and culture that compliments my commitment to learning, communication, health, happiness and achievement.

Product: Medium describes a great product as:

-         Solving real problems for real people – the "Jobs To Be Done" model

-         The result of a company’s strategic alignment, operational excellence, product leadership and exceptional customer support, thus allowing for deep customer relationships

People: I looked for accessible, effective, experienced and ambitious leadership who will communicate clearly and often, will help me continue to grow, hold themselves and employees accountable, as well as hire for and continuously cultivate a great culture and work environment.

While that may not seem like such a grand wish list, it's been an eye-opening experience to see what goes on behind the scenes at some very "desirable" companies.

After a whole lotta coffee dates, meetings, worldwide Zooms and WhatsApp video chats with amazing founders, sales leaders, new friends and mentors, I’m thrilled to have joined Getty Images!

Getty Images moves the world with imagery – with more than images: images, videos, music and art that moves hearts, minds and opinions. Getty Images is proud to create and promote powerful, relevant imagery that increases awareness, breaks stereotypes, powers ideas and drives advocacy for social issues.

The teams at Getty Images create and deliver thoughtful, innovative products that not only improve workflow and productivity but also provide engaging stages for clients to interact with their customers to motivate, inspire and change behavior.

The people at Getty Images are smart, organized (A++ for on-boarding!) and the most welcoming group I’ve ever encountered. There's flexibility alongside clearly outlined expectations and reward. Top it off with the opportunity to work with and for a stellar sales team including a former boss and mentor, and I’ve never been more excited or determined in my life.

Sales is not a job, it’s a profession – a tough one at that, but something that has always made sense to me. It’s storytelling and relationships, listening and learning, identifying opportunities and being a partner; an extension of a client’s team. It’s more than a transaction, it’s a dialogue.

While it's only (but already!) week three in my new role, I love the conversations I'm having, the work we're doing and am so happy to be here.

Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey: for making time to share your stories, listening to mine and all the valuable advice and feedback you provided - I took it all to heart and put it into action. I'm grateful for the people in my life that shine lights when the world seems dark, and am inspired to continue to reflect that support out to the world. And with the Getty Images purpose, platform and team on my side, things are looking bright.
