“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” the serenity prayer written by American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr is a perfect way to accept the reality while handling cognitive biases.?
While doing this series, several authors, psychologists, and management gurus suggested several thing in common to deal with cognitive biases. I would like to highlight three important tactics from those.
Have a Gallary View of things
Disassociating one’s own self from the situation and having an independent view of the events gives an altogether different perspective on the choices we make. Having a gallery view will help us to circumvent the emotions which influence decision-making.
Put Together a 'Personal' Board of Directors
Having a mentor is mandatory, someone whom you trust. This chapter has expanded now. Personal Development Gurus suggest having a board of directors for an individual as any business has. This board consists of trusted advisers in the field of leadership, health, happiness,? finance, and relationship. This board will help one to grow well as a whole person, as there is no single mentor who may not support in all walks of life.

Zen Mode
Getting into the zen mindset is viewing everything as it happens for the first time, as a newborn baby, without any prejudice. Neuroscience demonstrates that the Zen mindset may actually minimize distractions, bring clarity, and allow us to act with more kindness.
These tactics not only help us to fight the biases but also help us to grow as a leader, and accelerate growth as an individual.
With this, I am ramping down on cognitive bias. Many of you have been kind enough to regularly read this series and reflect. My sincere gratitude for that. If this has helped us to be aware of the cognitive bias and make better decisions, that is the payback for the efforts. Let me know, in case if you would like a few other cognitive biases to be covered as well.
I am planning to start a new series “One Page Stories”, where we will see some of the thought-provoking stories and real-life case studies, that help us to grow in professional life.
Keep watching this space.?
