Top 3 Foods For Eye Health

When was the last time you went to an eye doctor? Were you able to read every letter on the chart-- even the smallest line? If not, you aren't alone. Studies have shown that American's eye health is at its worst these days, thanks to all of the screens most of us use on a daily basis. This is also the case for our seniors. Whether they use screens as much as the average office worker or their eye health is deteriorating due to health issues, action must be taken.

Often times caregivers will focus on food that improves out their aging loved one's brain health or regularity, or food that prevents to conditions like gout. But did you know eye health can also be improved with the addition of a few items to their diet?

Care2 explores there how these simple ingredients are known for improving vision and eye health in general.

1. Carrots. Ever since Bugs Bunny aced his vision tests, people have been aware that carrots have the potential to improve eyesight. These orange vegetables are loaded with alpha-carotine, beta-carotine, lutein, and zeaxanthin. They are often considered one of the best foods to improve vision.

2. Green tea. The wonder tea, this light and tasty beverage is known for its plethora of health benefits, and vision is not exempt. It contains compounds known as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which has the ability to protect eyes and may even be able to help slow cataract formation.

3. Blueberries. The superfruit we all add to our cereal and muffins also makes our eyes smile. As Care2 states, it has demonstrated its ability to protect eyes against rapid and free radical damage.

We can help ourselves and our loved ones a little bit at a time by adding these three foods to our regular diet. As you can see, all three are loaded with a ton of other nutrients so it will only make your bodies smile all the more.
