Top 3 Body Language Mistakes in Public Seaking

We may plan our speech really well, but when it comes to delivery, some basic errors can really throw us off. Are you doing these common mistakes ? If so, stop immedately.

1. Lack of Eye Contact

Failing to maintain eye contact can make you seem disinterested or untrustworthy. It can also prevent you from connecting with your audience, making your speech less engaging. Effective eye contact helps to establish a rapport, show confidence, and keep the audience engaged. To improve, practice scanning the room and making eye contact with different sections of your audience, holding it for a few seconds with each person or area.

2. Fidgeting and Unnecessary Movements

Fidgeting, such as playing with your hair, tapping your feet, or shifting your weight constantly, can distract your audience and convey nervousness. These movements can undermine your message and make it difficult for the audience to focus on your speech. To avoid this, practice standing still with good posture and use deliberate, purposeful gestures to emphasize key points, rather than making random movements.

3. Closed Body Language

Crossing your arms, keeping your hands in your pockets, or hunching over can make you appear defensive, unapproachable, or lacking in confidence. Open body language, such as keeping your arms at your sides or using open hand gestures, can make you appear more approachable and confident. It invites your audience in and encourages a more positive and engaging interaction. Practice standing with an open stance, shoulders back, and hands visible to enhance your presence on stage.

Always have a feedback group who observes your speeches and warns you on the errors you do so you can consciously avoid them.

Until next week. Keep Speaking.
