Top 3 Blockers to implementing Digital Transformation in Irish Businesses
The analysis of our State of Digital Transformation survey continues (if you haven’t filled it in and think it is relevant the link is here).
We have over 340 completed responses so far ranging from Multinationals with operations in Ireland through to major businesses across Utilities, Financial Services and Manufacturing. Thanks to all who took the time so far.
In our post last week we covered the key areas in which the pressure is arising from digital. The results, taken from the first batch of results (just under 50) were:
- Customer Expectations
- Pace of Change increasing
- New Business Models
and interestingly those have held as top 3 in the most recent analysis of over 340. (the choice of 9 possible areas in this question is randomised as are all the multi choice answers).
The next question was “What are THREE most relevant things stopping you from tackling those?” and this is the current result:
This is fascinating as a learning. The issues from this pool of respondents (65.8% of whom are responsible for leading digital change in their business or organisation) are very practical and focus on the availability of the key resources required – Time, Budget, Skill Sets.
Less challenging are the higher level issues like absence of a strategy, culture or senior management support.
Our thought on this is that we would be very conscious of the resource requirement being a key issue – change implementation can be complex and takes a lot of focus to be successful while current operations are maintained. However we also often challenged by either the complete absence of a clear strategy or one that is not realistic or appropriate to the needs of the business.
It will be interesting to tease that one out – to see if the lack of key resources is blocking the ability of digital leads to begin the process of uncovering issues with their culture or senior management support for example.
All of this will be up for discussion during our Digital Change Masterclass next Thursday in Dublin City Centre. Its a day long programme combining frameworks for change with practical exercises and deep dives into Omni Channel Customer Care and External Communications and Social Listening. 9 年It is interesting that time has emerged as a main barrier. A contributory factor here might that that the whole digital piece is seen as a major project and that the normal human reaction is to procrastinate; let's put if off for the moment as can't get my head around it ... Training, orientation and peer to peer support feedback and support is so critical in this space.

9 年Not surprisingly technology is not a major blocker- it's resources and people (time, skills and money). This is even more critical in SME sector. It would be interesting to survey that sector and compare results.

9 年So true, be it in dig experience, or complete business transformation and vision. That big strategy, so key. And yet, so hard to nail down when one feels in the middle of trees.
