Top 24 Lessons I Learned from My Internship at Infinity Innovators

Internships are a pivotal part of a student's journey, offering hands-on experience and lessons that last a lifetime. My internship at Infinity Innovators as an intern software engineer, working on the MyRide app using React Native and AWS serverless architecture with Node.js, has been incredibly enriching.

Working on the MyRide project provided me with a solid technical foundation. However, I learned much more than just technical skills. These experiences boosted my confidence and taught me valuable life lessons that go beyond coding and software development. Here are the top 24 lessons I learned during my time there.

1. Basic Understanding is Enough

You don't need to know everything to start working on something. A basic understanding is often enough to get you going. When I began working on MyRide, I didn't have in-depth knowledge of all the technologies we used, but I learned as I went along.

2. Adapt to New Tools

In today's fast-paced tech environment, it's crucial to adapt to new tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot. These tools can significantly enhance productivity and problem-solving.

3. Underpromise and Overdeliver

Always manage expectations by underpromising and overdelivering. This approach helps build trust and credibility with both customers and higher-ups.

4. Satisfy Customers and Higher-ups

Balancing the needs and expectations of customers and higher positions is essential. Their satisfaction ensures the success and smooth operation of projects.

5. Understand People to Lead

Technical skills are not enough to be a leader. Understanding people's behavior and motivations is crucial. This insight helps in managing and leading teams effectively.

6. Group Problem Solving

Solving problems as a group is more effective than working alone. Collaboration brings diverse perspectives and ideas, leading to better solutions.

7. Be Friendly at Work

Being friendly and approachable makes it easier for others to reach out to you, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

8. Appreciate Workers

To get the best and most successful output, recognize and appreciate the potential of your coworkers. Appreciation motivates people to work enthusiastically.

Dream big but set achievable goals based on your situation. This balance helps in making steady progress without becoming overwhelmed.

14. Avoid Comparisons

Don't compare yourself with others. Everyone has unique backgrounds and strengths. Focus on your own journey and growth.

15. Don't Underestimate Yourself

Never underestimate yourself or preemptively declare failure. Believing in yourself is the first step to success. If you underestimate yourself or make yourself a failed person by yourself, you don't need others to make you fail since you have already done it.

16. Recognize Individual Potentials

Not everyone has the same potential for every task. Identify and guide people based on their strengths.

17. Avoid Rushing

Doing things in a rush often leads to mistakes. It's better to do things correctly, even if it takes more time.

18. Time is Precious

Time is more valuable than money because once spent, it cannot be earned back. Use it wisely.

New technologies come and go, but we must adapt to use them effectively. My mentor often said, "AI is not here to replace you but to make you more efficient."

You don't need to memorize everything, just the core concepts. Computers can memorize everything more than you. You can't even reach up to that level. so focus on understanding the fundamentals.

Individually, we can't compete with AI, but we can use it to improve ourselves and our work.

23. Seek Expert Guidance

Do what you love and seek guidance from experts to avoid mistakes. Passion combined with proper guidance leads to success.

24. Be a Valuable Asset

Showing your value to your company or anyone else is more important than anything else. Be a valuable asset through your contributions and reliability.

My internship at Infinity Innovators has been an eye-opening experience, filled with valuable lessons. From understanding the importance of passion and time management to learning how to adapt to new tools and technologies, each lesson has shaped my approach to work and life.
