Top 20 Simple Ideas to Make Your Weekend Happier

As I write this, I find myself traveling overseas, a journey that brings its own set of joys and challenges. While being away from family and loved ones is undoubtedly the hardest part, there's a silver lining: travel opens doors to diverse perspectives, cultures, and experiences. It also offers precious moments to read, think, and reflect—luxuries we often miss in our busy lives.

However, even in these moments of exploration, it's hard to escape the barrage of news that seems to tilt heavily toward the negative. From wars affecting innocent victims in millions, senseless shootings, and political polarization to the struggles of mental health and economic downturns—the list seems endless.

In light of this, I decided to shift focus this Friday morning and delve into something lighter and more uplifting. I've compiled a list of 20 simple and delightful activities. These are chosen for their ease of execution, minimal cost, and their wonderful ability to boost your mood, offer a sense of achievement, and, ideally, connect you with your loved ones and community.

Without further ado, here are the?Top 20 Simple Ideas to Make Your Weekend Happier:

  1. Take a Road Trip: Why not embrace spontaneity and hit the open road? Each mile brings new experiences and a refreshing break from routine.
  2. Attend a Comedy Show: Laughter, they say, is the best medicine. Enjoy a night of giggles and leave your worries at the door.
  3. Go on a Bike Ride: Feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. It's not just great exercise but a fantastic mood booster.
  4. Visit a Museum or Art Gallery: Let creativity and history inspire you. It's amazing what a little art can do for the soul.
  5. Practice Yoga or Meditation: In our fast-paced world, finding inner peace and balance is crucial. Stretch, breathe, and center yourself.

Thank you for another insightful post! What brings a smile to my face is when I start seeing all that I have in my life (amazing people, loving family, great health etc). I become more aware of how fortunate I am; hence it brings much joy and gratitude. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and taking nature walks.

Serhat, thank you for sharing. This reminds me of a great book, Rest is Resistance, by Tricia Hersey. I'm only sharing if you have more time to read and reflect while traveling ??. Some additional activities to consider: - Take a nap (it can do wonders) - Meditate - let the thoughts go for a while - Be in conversation, fully present through listening to what the other is saying, and appreciate it for what it is. I might be breaking the rule here, as I am happier already, and it isn't the weekend yet... ha!
