As we reflect on the astounding advancements in the field of artificial intelligence in 2023, one notable thought leader on LinkedIn clearly stands out: Cohen Reuven . His many contributions have been instrumental in shedding light on the evolving capabilities and applications of generative AI. Reuven's insights are invaluable for anyone keen on understanding the trajectory of this transformative technology. I highly recommend following Mr. Cohen for a deeper understanding of these developments.
In a recent post, Mr. Cohen provided a methodology for automagically compiling a "top LinkedIn posts for 2023" list using ChatGPT. Upon experimenting with his approach, I encountered unexpected challenges with ChatGPT's (GPT-4) ability to effectively interpret and process the data from an exported PDF. This required additional effort refining the prompts and manually massaging the resulting output. It is worth noting that this was one of the only instances where GPT-4, despite its unbelievable capabilities, faced difficulties completing a task that appeared straightforward and obvious. The reasons for this are not immediately clear, but it underscores the fact that even the most advanced AI systems have their limitations at this early stage in the game. I fully expect those limitations to disappear, and superintelligent AI to become broadly available, within the next 18-24 months and possibly before the end of 2024. The rate of progress in artificial intelligence is beyond anything the world of computer science has seen before. It is, in a word, surreal.
This one odd experience - watching GPT-4 struggle to do something that seems easy - does not diminish the significance of generative AI. This remains one of the most groundbreaking innovations of all time, demonstrating remarkable versatility and potential across a spectrum of complex tasks. Looking ahead to 2024, we can anticipate further enhancements in AI capabilities, especially in terms of processing diverse data formats and improving user interactions. These advancements will undoubtedly continue to revolutionize various sectors and change the way we interact with technology.
Ride the gen AI wave or get flattened by it - the tsunami is on its way and time is short. I personally expect this to be the ride of a lifetime. Miss the boat and you may find yourself in a workplace that suddenly feels unrecognizable.
Wishing you Happy Holidays and a prosperous New Year,
