Following a recent article from a month ago which I published highlighting the top 10 Luxury Hoteliers (Link Below), I decided to expand and release a top 20 of the greatest and most influential hoteliers of all time.
https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/top-10-luxury-hoteliers-all-time-tareq-bagaeen/
This list is aimed at sharing knowledge to so many people, whether junior or seasoned who may not know how the Marriott Family got into the hotel business or how the Holiday Inn brand became what it is today.
The criteria taken into consideration when building up this list were the sizes of the companies that these great leaders have created, the innovations made that have impacted the industry as we know it today, creating luxury standards and pushing the boundaries as well as building up lead in brands who have started trends which are still going strong today.
After compiling the list and giving it much though, I have come to realize that all of the top 20 were hoteliers at some point, but very quickly they have all morphed into property developers, asset managers and real estate tycoons as that is where the real money comes in much of the time. But nonetheless, that is to be expected as companies will always diversify revenue streams and investments towards greater financial results.
As always, I would very much welcome everyone’s feedback on who you think should not be part of this list or who may have been missed as it is when we share knowledge and opinions that we grow our overall awareness as an online community through LinkedIn.
Thank you for reading and sharing...........

1 年Bristol and Kaiserhof. Over time, it added more hotels to its portfolio, already under the Kempinski brand. And it was this company, not Berthold or his successive descendants, that contributed to elevating its facilities to the heights of truly luxurious hospitality. I invite you also to my book ‘The Most Famous Hoteliers of All Time’ on website www.famoushoteliers.net and this is also my subjective approach but based on evidence collected over the years.

1 年A very interesting list of hoteliers, especially that you also included the present ones in it. You've done a really good job. I have only one exception - well, reading Berthold Kempinski's biographies I did not find anything that indicated that he ran a hotel, so to say that he was among famous hoteliers of all time is a bit of exaggeration. While the Kempinski Hotels brand is indeed at the forefront of the luxury hotel industry, it is a mistake to attribute any contribution to the development of this industry to Berthold Kempinski. This person had really nothing to do with the hotel industry. During his lifetime, Kempinski traded in wine and ran the largest restaurant in Berlin, then transferred his company M. Kempinski & Co. to his son-in-law, Richard Unger, on condition that he retains the KEMPINSKI name. Moreover, Richard Unger did not run any hotel either. It was only his son, and Berthold's grandson, Friedrich Unger, who opened the Kempinski Hotel in Berlin in 1952 (42 years after Berthold's death), but after only 2 years he sold his shares in the facility and the Kempinski name to Hotelbetriebs-Aktiengesellschaft, which since 1897 has already run such luxury hotels as Baltic,
