The Two Most Important Factors in Sustainable Fat Loss

Much like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, there is a hierarchy of importance when it comes to which actions/factors carry the most weight (pun intended) to achieving long-term weight loss.

In today’s newsletter, I will list the top 2, but it's important to note that there are 7:

  1. Sustainability and Adherence [of exercise and diet]
  2. Caloric Deficit
  3. Exercise
  4. Self-Monitoring
  5. Protein and Fiber Intake
  6. Macronutrients: Carbs and Fat Macros
  7. Supplements

?

#1: Adherence & Sustainability

Remember these quotes:

“A river cuts through rock, not because of its power, but because of its persistence.”

“Slow and steady wins the race.”

"You are what you do consistently."

?

Now tell me, which is better?

You lose 50 lbs in 6 months, but you gain it back within 3-5 years because the lifestyle is unsustainable.

-or-

You lose 25 lbs in 12 months, but you keep it off and keep going, slowly but surely.

The choice is obvious. Results don't matter much if they don't last. And sadly, studies show that roughly 80% of people who lose about 10% or more of their bodyweight will gain it back within 3-5 years.?

I’m not going to beat a dead horse here. I said it before, and I’ll say it again: Find what sustains?you, even if you’re not moving as quickly as you hoped.

No matter how slowly you’re moving, you’re still lapping everyone on the couch.?

?

#2: Calorie Deficit

For fat loss, make sure your calories burned (Total Daily Energy Expenditure or "TDEE") are?higher?than your calories consumed.

For weight gain, make sure your calories consumed are?higher?than your calories burned (TDEE).?

In whichever?sustainable?diet you choose (i.e. Vegetarian, Vegan, Carnivore, Flexible, Keto, Whole 30, Paleo, etc.) PLEASE find a way to adhere to this?proven?law of fat loss. I guarantee it will work as long as you're consistent.

READ THIS AGAIN:?A calorie deficit (aka negative energy balance) stands alone as the the?only?thing responsible for fat loss regardless of the type of diet.?

This does not mean you should forget about the rest of the elements to sustainable fat loss and maintenance, but it does mean that it is the only guarantor for it.?

THE MEANS:?Whichever diet you can sustain.

THE END:?Losing fat and maintaining the results

The Two Most Important Factors in Reducing Candidate Drop-off

Just as there's a hierarchy of effectiveness in achieving long-term weight loss in fitness, there are key strategies in recruitment that significantly impact the success of maintaining candidate engagement throughout the hiring process. Here, we’ll discuss the top two factors that are crucial for reducing candidate drop-off, although there are several to consider for a comprehensive strategy:

#1: Clear Communication & Expectations

Remember these phrases:

"Clarity is kindness."

"People may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel."

"The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place."

Which scenario sounds better?

  • Employees are overloaded with tasks, feeling uncertain about their priorities, which leads to stress and job dissatisfaction.

- or -

  • Employees have clear, well-communicated expectations with achievable goals, which they meet with confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

The choice is clear. Setting clear and manageable expectations not only keeps your team focused but also boosts morale and productivity. It prevents confusion and the feeling of being overwhelmed, which are common reasons for job dissatisfaction and turnover. Effective communication about what is expected, along with reasonable timelines, helps employees see their path to success and feel valued in their roles.

#2: Streamlined Processes

For sustained engagement and efficiency, ensure your operational processes are as streamlined and frictionless as possible. Overly complex and cumbersome procedures can deter employee motivation and efficiency:

For optimal results, consider this:

  • Review and reduce unnecessary steps in workflows.
  • Implement technology that simplifies tasks.
  • Encourage feedback on processes and adjust as necessary.

A streamlined approach not only enhances productivity but also helps in retaining talent by reducing frustrations and inefficiencies. When employees can focus on their core responsibilities without being bogged down by procedural inefficiencies, job satisfaction increases significantly.

Key Takeaway

Much like sustainability and adherence to a diet are essential for long-term weight loss, clear communication of expectations and streamlined processes are vital for reducing employee turnover. These strategies ensure that your management practices enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and loyalty.
